Oil Tank Draining


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE FILLER CAP OF THE OIL TANK IMMEDIATELY AFTER ENGINE OPERATION. LET THE OIL PRESSURE DECREASE FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. IF YOU OPEN THE FILLER CAP WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE TANK, THE OIL CAN BURN YOU DANGEROUSLY.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE OIL TANK SCUPPER IS CLEAN TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE TANK DURING THE SERVICING OPERATIONS.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 12-13-79-941-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 12-13-79-680-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Drain the oil tank
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND BE CAREFUL WITH OIL SPLASHES WHEN YOU DISCONNECT OIL TUBES. HOT OIL CAN CAUSE DEEP BURNS.
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 30 L(8 USGAL) capacity under the drain port of the oil tank.
   (2) Remove the lockwire which attaches the drain plug to the oil tank.
   (3) Remove the drain plug and drain the oil.
   (4) Remove and discard the O-ring (10).

B. Install the drain plug
CAUTION: DO NOT FORGET TO INSTALL AN O-RING. THE ABSENCE OF THE O-RING CAN CAUSE IMPORTANT OIL LOSSES DURING ENGINE OPERATION WITH POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE.
   (1) Lubricate a new AIPC 79-11-10-01-150 O-RING (10) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) . Install the O-ring in the groove of the drain plug.
   (2) Install the drain plug in the drain port of the oil tank.
   (3) TORQUE the drain plug to between 150 and 135 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.53 m.daN ) T.
   (4) Install the lockwire:
WARNING: USE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Safety the drain plug with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia or CP8006safety cable 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia..
   (5) Fill the oil tank with new engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-002).
     (a) If you fill the oil tank with an oil which is of a new brand or type:
       1 Replace the oil placard to show the new oil type or brand correctly, in accordance with new oil type or brand at next convenient maintenance opportunity AIPC 11-24-79-01.
       2 For approved oils to be used, refer to CFM vendor SB 79-0001.
NOTE: It remains the sole responsibility of the operator to check, log and know the oil brand currently in use and position the associated placard accordingly.
