A. Safety Precautions
CAUTION: DO NOT CUT PROTECTIVE FILMS, TAPES, MASKS OR MARKINGS ON THE AIRCRAFT SKIN BECAUSE YOU CAN CAUSE SCRIBE MARKS. IF YOU MUST CUT THE MATERIALS ON THE AIRCRAFT, USE SCISSORS OR PUT A PLATE BETWEEN THE FILM AND THE AIRCRAFT SKIN. THE PLATE MUST HAVE A MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 0.6 MM (0.024 IN) IF IT IS MADE OF METAL AND 2 MM (0.079 IN) IF IT IS MADE OF HARD PLASTIC. YOU CAN ALSO USE A SPECIAL CUTTER (SEE MANUFACTURER CODE 3M MARTOR - POLYPICK NO.4699). AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE WORK, DO AN INSPECTION.

B. Get Access
   (1) Before you replace a placard or marking, always record its location or use the Airbus/vendor drawing available in AIPC chapter 11 to know the correct location for its installation.
   (2) Get access to the area where you will install the placard or marking.
4. Procedure
Subtask 11-00-00-420-052-A
A. Installation of an Adhesive Film Marking
F Markings Installation Method
   (1) Make sure that the minimum time between the last paint coating and the application of the adhesive marking is:
  • 24 hours at 23 DEG.C (73.4 DEG.F) for Top Coat Polyurethane_- - External Structure (Material No.04JAA3) or Top Coat Polyurethane-Low VOC - External Structure (Material No.04JBA3) with an overall thickness of 0.160 MM (0.01 IN.).
  • 6 hours on Base Coat Polyurethane-Chromate Free - External Structure (Material No.04LDA3) at 23 DEG.C (73.4 DEG.F) for base coat/clearcoat paint system.
   (2) Make sure that the ambient temperature is between 15 DEG.C (59 DEG.F) and 35 DEG.C (95 DEG.F).
   (3) Make sure that the temperature of the component and the ambient temperature are approximately equivalent.
   (4) Apply a minimum of 10 mm (0.3937 in.) width of TAPE - MASKING on the area adjacent to the adhesive decorative film.
   (5) If necessary, use a PAPER - ABRASIVE (GRADE 320) or a PAPER - ABRASIVE (GRADE 400) to carefully rub the varnish edges until the surface where the marks were becomes smooth.
   (6) Lightly rub the area with a very smooth SCOTCHBRITE.
   (7) Clean the surface area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) soaked with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) .
   (8) Let the area dry.
   (9) Put on GLOVES - COTTON, LINT-FREE, CLEAN.
   (10) Apply new adhesive film marking Adhesive Deco. Film-Marking - External Structure (Material No.05VGM3) refer to the manufacturer instructions or use the methods below:
     (a) Use the method 1:
       1 Carefully remove the adhesive protection from the marking at an angle of 180 degrees.
       2 Apply the marking at the specified location.
       3 Apply pressure with a SQUEEGEE to remove the air bubbles.
       4 Carefully remove the external protection with an angle of 180 degrees.
       5 If there are bubbles below the marking, make holes with a NEEDLE and remove the air.
         a If you cannot do a repair, remove the marking (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-000-802).
     (b) Use the method 2:
       1 Carefully and slowly remove the carrier paper from the adhesive film marking at an angle of approximately 180 degrees.
       2 Lightly pull the adhesive film marking to prevent folds or bubbles and put it in position.
NOTE: Auxiliary lines are given on the application tape for the decal/tape position change.
       3 If there are bubbles below the marking, make holes with a NEEDLE and remove the air.
       4 Push the adhesive film with a ROLLER - RUBBER and move the rubber roller from the center to the edges.
       5 Carefully and slowly remove the application tape from the adhesive film marking at an angle of approximately 180 degrees.
       6 Make sure that the edges of the adhesive film marking are correctly bonded.

B. Application of the Varnish after the Installation or the Repair of the Adhesive Film Marking
F Sealing Varnish Application
NOTE: Application of the Varnish Polyurethane-Low VOC - External Structure (Material No.04SBA3) can be done immediately after the installation of the Adhesive Deco. Film-Marking - External Structure (Material No.05VGM3) .
   (1) Apply a thin and smooth layer of Varnish Polyurethane-Low VOC - External Structure (Material No.04SBA3) to the marking and the marking edges with:
  • A GUN - SPRAY (recommended manufacturing procedure for markings of more than 35 mm (1.3780 in.) length) or
  • A BRUSH - BRISTLED, FIBER, SOFT or
  • A ROLLER - RUBBER, FOAM.
   (2) Remove the masking tape around the marking area.
   (3) Let the Varnish Polyurethane-Low VOC - External Structure (Material No.04SBA3) dry.
