A. Safety Precautions
Subtask 11-00-00-941-066-A CAUTION:
DO NOT CUT PROTECTIVE FILMS, TAPES, MASKS OR MARKINGS ON THE AIRCRAFT SKIN BECAUSE YOU CAN CAUSE SCRIBE MARKS.
IF YOU MUST CUT THE MATERIALS ON THE AIRCRAFT, USE SCISSORS OR PUT A PLATE BETWEEN THE FILM AND THE AIRCRAFT SKIN. THE PLATE MUST HAVE A MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 0.6 MM (0.024 IN) IF IT IS MADE OF METAL AND 2 MM (0.079 IN) IF IT IS MADE OF HARD PLASTIC.
YOU CAN ALSO USE A SPECIAL CUTTER (SEE MANUFACTURER CODE 3M MARTOR - POLYPICK NO.4699).
AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE WORK, DO AN INSPECTION.

(1) (1) Before you replace a placard or marking, always record its location or use the Airbus/vendor drawing available in AIPC chapter 11 to know the correct location for its installation.

A. Removal of a Paint Marking
(2) Apply Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) to the adjacent area of the old marking(s) (10 MM (0.39 IN.) minimum around the marking).
(3) If necessary, remove the Varnish Polyurethane-Low VOC - External Structure (Material No.04SBA3) applied on top of the old marking(s).
(a) Lightly rub the varnish with an ABRASIVE PAPER - 320 TO 500 GRIT.
(b) Make sure that you do not remove the adjacent paint.
(4) Remove the old painted marking(s) by abrasion.
(a) Rub area with an abrasive scotch-brite pad - grade 180 Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) .
(b) On flat and curved surfaces, use a rubber block to make the work easier.
(c) Rub areas A and B with an abrasive scotch-brite pad - grade 240 Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) .
(d) Do circular movements to decrease the grade 180 rubbing lines.
(5) Rub areas A, B and C with an abrasive scotch-brite pad - grade 400 Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) .
(a) On flat and curved surfaces, use a rubber block to make the work easier.
(6) Manually, rub the work area with an abrasive scotch-brite pad - grade 400 Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) for a better finish.
(7) Clean the area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and let the area dry..
(a) If you find defects, do the applicable step again.
5. Close-upWARNING:
DO NOT APPLY ADHESIVE TAPE ON THE PROBES, DUCTS, SENSORS (STATIC, PITOT, TAT, AOA). USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED TOOLS FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE SPECIFIED TOOLS:
(1) If necessary, record the location of the marking with TAPE - ADHESIVE before you remove it. - GIVE THE CORRECT PROTECTION TO THE AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT,
- ARE EASY TO SEE FROM THE GROUND,
- ARE EASY TO REMOVE.
(2) Apply Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) to the adjacent area of the old marking(s) (10 MM (0.39 IN.) minimum around the marking).
(3) If necessary, remove the Varnish Polyurethane-Low VOC - External Structure (Material No.04SBA3) applied on top of the old marking(s).
