Installation of the Aircraft Protection Equipment


WARNING: DO NOT APPLY ADHESIVE TAPE ON THE PROBES, DUCTS, SENSORS (STATIC, PITOT, TAT, AOA). USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED TOOLS FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE SPECIFIED TOOLS:
  • GIVE THE CORRECT PROTECTION TO THE AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT,
  • ARE EASY TO SEE FROM THE GROUND,
  • ARE EASY TO REMOVE.
IF YOU USE TAPE, THERE IS A RISK THAT SOME TAPE, OR ADHESIVE FROM THE TAPE, WILL STAY ON THE PROBES, DUCTS OR SENSORS. THIS CAN CAUSE INCORRECT INDICATIONS ON THE RELATED COCKPIT INSTRUMENTS.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE PROBES ON THE GROUND. THE PROBES CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME AND WILL BURN YOU.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On panel 115VU:
  • Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
  • Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control lever is in the OFF position.
   (2) On panel 25VU:
  • Make sure that the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
   (3) In the cockpit, put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
  • To tell persons that the protection covers/devices on the probes are installed.
  • On the CAPT side stick to tell the crew that the protection covers/devices are installed and not to operate the systems.
   (4) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position near the aircraft.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROBES, THE ENGINE AND THE APU ARE COOL BEFORE INSTALLATION OF THE PROTECTIVE DEVICES. IF THE PROBES ARE HOT, THERE IS A RISK OF INJURY AND THE PROTECTIVE DEVICES CAN MELT.
   (1) Protection of the 2 total temperature sensors
   (2) Protection of the 3 pitot probes
   (3) Protection of the 3 angle-of-attack sensors
  • Put the 98A10001500000 COVER-SLIP ON,ANGLE OF ATTACK SENSOR in position.
   (4) Protection of the 6 static probes
   (5) Protection of the 2 ice detection probes
