Towing with Tires Deflated


WARNING: OBEY THESE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DURING MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT (TOWING, PUSHBACK OR TAXIING). MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THE PATH OF THE AIRCRAFT IS CLEAR OF PERSONS, EQUIPMENT AND OTHER OBSTACLES.
  • NO PERSONS GO NEAR THE TOW TRACTOR, TOWBAR, LANDING GEARS, ENGINE NACELLES OR BELOW THE AIRCRAFT FUSELAGE.
  • ONLY QUALIFIED PERSONS ARE ON THE TRACTOR AND NO PERSONS SIT OR STAND ON THE TOWBAR.
  • NO PERSONS GO NEAR THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE IT IS FULLY STOPPED.
THERE IS A RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
NOTE: For aircraft with cabin and/or cargo compartment(s) floor panels removed, smooth and low-speed towing is recommended.
1. Reason for the Job
The nosewheel steering is kept to a limit when:
  • You tow the aircraft with one or more tires deflated on one or more landing gears.

A. Towing
   (1) One tire is deflated on one or more gears (a maximum of three deflated tires)
  • Tow the aircraft by the nose gear only. The maximum permitted lateral angle of the towbar is plus or minus 10 degrees (Ref. AMM TASK 09-10-00-584-002).
   (2) One tire is deflated on one main gear
  • Tow the aircraft by the nose gear only. The maximum permitted lateral angle of the towbar is plus or minus 40 degrees (Ref. AMM TASK 09-10-00-584-002).
   (3) Two tires are deflated on the same main gear
  • Tow the aircraft by the main gear only (refer to ARM 07-40-02). The towbar must not move laterally.
