A. Inspection of the Starter Magnetic Drain-Plug for Oil Contamination
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (1) PRE SB C-80-00-0006A (without chip collector probe):
   (2) POST SB C-80-00-0006A (with chip collector probe):
  • For engines with a starter magnetic chip-collector probe (14), find the chip collector probe installed on the bottom of the starter at the rear of the main gearbox at the five o'clock position
   (3) Examine the magnetic drain plug (2) or starter chip-collector probe (14) as follows:
     (a) If you find chips smaller than 0.100 in. (2.54 mm) in any dimension or no chips, the starter can continue-in-service.
     (b) If you find chips larger than 0.100 in. (2.54 mm) in any dimension, you must replace the starter (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-01-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-01-400-801).
   (4) PRE SB C-80-00-0006A (without chip collector probe):
     (a) Install the magnetic drain plug (2) on the starter (1) as follows:
1 Remove and discard the EIPC 80-11-01-01-130 PACKING (4) from the drain plug (2)
2 Apply the P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) to the new EIPC 80-11-01-01-130 PACKING (4).
       3 Use a clean P05-005wipe, lint-free to clean the drain plug (2).
4 Install the packing (4) on the drain plug (2).
CAUTION: DO NOT PUSH ON THE RETENTION TAB TO INSTALL THE DRAIN PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE DRAIN PLUG CAN OCCUR.
5 Hold the drain plug (2) at the square and press and turn the drain plug until it fully seats against the starter (1).
6 Make sure that the drain plug (2) is fully seated against the mating surface.
7 Turn the drain plug (2) so that the retention tab is under the bolt (3).
       8 TORQUE the drain plug bolt (3) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN )
T.
   (5) POST SB C-80-00-0006A (with chip collector probe):
     (a) Install the chip collector probe (14) as follows:
1 Remove and discard the packing (15) from the probe (14).
NOTE: A white thermal insulator is located near the packing (15) on the chip collector (14). This is not a packing and should not be removed.
       2 Use a clean P05-005wipe, lint-free to clean the probe (14).
3 Apply the P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) to the new EIPC 80-11-02-01-030 PACKING (15).
