Subtask 80-11-00-941-061-A
A. Safety Precautions
4. ProcedureCAUTION:
DO NOT DO A MANUAL START OVERRIDE OF THE STARTER VALVE WITH THE ENGINE CROSS BLEED OR A GROUND START CART. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(1) During the engine start procedure, obey all the engine safety precautions (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-869-803). Subtask 80-11-00-869-058-A
A. Check of the Starter Air Control-Valve System
(1) Use the maintenance interphone jack or any other means of communication between cockpit and ground and make sure that you can communicate with the cockpit crew.
(2) Find the DRIVE 3/8 IN - SQUARE (manual override drive) (3) of the starter air control-valve (2) through the access hole (1).
(3) Make sure that the valve is in the closed position.
(5) When directed by the cockpit crew, turn the manual override approximately 75 degrees counterclockwise to the OPEN position and hold it open with approximately to between 120 and 80 lbf.in (1.36 and 0.90 m.daN )
of TORQUE.
5. Close-up(1) Use the maintenance interphone jack or any other means of communication between cockpit and ground and make sure that you can communicate with the cockpit crew.
(2) Find the DRIVE 3/8 IN - SQUARE (manual override drive) (3) of the starter air control-valve (2) through the access hole (1).
(3) Make sure that the valve is in the closed position.
NOTE: The valve is spring-loaded to the closed position. Rotate the square drive clockwise to CLOSE if required.
(4) Engine start: WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THE ENGINES OPERATE ON THE GROUND:
- NO PERSONS GO WHERE THE AIRCRAFT CAN CAUSE THEM INJURY OR CAN KILL THEM
- NO OBJECTS STAY WHERE THE ENGINES CAN BLOW THEM AWAY OR WHERE THEY CAN BE PULLED INTO THE ENGINES BY SUCTION.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPERATE THE MANUAL HANDLE OF THE PNEUMATIC STARTER VALVE IF THE STARTER SYSTEM IS NOT PRESSURIZED. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE PNEUMATIC STARTER VALVE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OVER-TORQUE THE MANUAL OVERRIDE OF THE STARTER AIR VALVE. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE STARTER AIR VALVE.
(a) Tell the cockpit crew that you are ready for the engine start. (5) When directed by the cockpit crew, turn the manual override approximately 75 degrees counterclockwise to the OPEN position and hold it open with approximately to between 120 and 80 lbf.in (1.36 and 0.90 m.daN )
of TORQUE. NOTE: Do not use more than 200 lbf.in (2.26 m.daN) of TORQUE to hold the valve open.
NOTE: Keep the valve open until the cockpit crew tells you to release and close the valve.
(6) When directed by the cockpit crew, turn the valve approximately 75 degrees clockwise to the CLOSED position. NOTE: Keep the valve closed until the cockpit crew tells you to release the valve.
(7) Tell the cockpit crew to make sure that on the ECAM WD, the warning message ENG 1(2) START VALVE FAULT/START VALVE NOT CLOSED does not come into view. Subtask 80-11-00-942-057-A
