Inspection of the Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler for Internal Leakage
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE OIL SYSTEM.

A. Examine FCOC atmospheric vent hole
(1) Examine atmospheric vent hole for signs of oil or fuel wetting or leaking.
(3) If the fluid is leaking (characterized by the formation of a drop or expectancy of a drop that will detach during engine operation), replace the unit (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).
Subtask 79-21-43-680-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Examine atmospheric vent hole for signs of oil or fuel wetting or leaking.
NOTE: Oil or fuel in this location is indicative of either internal cracking between the fuel and oil seals or degradation of the seals.
(2) If the fluid is only wetting (characterized by a moist surface without drip formation) the surface of the FCOC, the unit can continue operation for 10 cycles before replacement (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010). (3) If the fluid is leaking (characterized by the formation of a drop or expectancy of a drop that will detach during engine operation), replace the unit (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).
B. Drain the oil from the FCOC
(1) Cut and discard the lockwire from the oil drain plug (1).
(2) Position the container to catch all the oil which drains from the FCOC.
(3) Remove the oil drain plug (1) and drain the oil into the CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL).
(4) Remove and discard the sealing ring (2).
Subtask 79-21-43-210-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Cut and discard the lockwire from the oil drain plug (1).
