Removal of the Oil Tank


WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE OIL TANK. IT WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 20lb (9.1kg).
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

Subtask 79-11-41-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

C. Drain the engine oil system (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-010).

D. Removal of Equipment:
   (1) Remove the oil quantity transmitter (Ref. AMM TASK 79-31-15-000-010).
   (2) Remove the oil tank pressurization valve (Ref. AMM TASK 79-11-51-000-010).
   (3) Remove the scavenge oil filter housing assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-000-010).
4. Procedure
Subtask 79-11-41-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Oil Tank:
F Oil Tank ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Disconnect the oil spill tube
     (a) Disconnect the clip (3) on the oil spill tube (4) from the bracket (8).
     (b) Disconnect the oil spill tube (4) from the union (9) on the oil level sight glass.
   (2) Disconnect the oil tank drain tube
     (a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the coupling of the oil tank drain tube (13).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tank drain tube (13) from the union (12).
     (c) Remove the union (12).
     (d) Remove and discard the packing (11).
   (3) Disconnect the dust cover lanyards
     (a) Disconnect the dust covers (17) lanyards from the bracket (10).
   (4) Remove the transferable parts
     (a) Remove the dust covers (17).
     (b) Remove the couplings (16) and (18).
     (c) Remove and discard the packings (15) and (19).
   (5) Remove the oil tank
     (a) Hold the oil tank. Remove the six nuts (23) and the two washers which attach the oil tank flange and the two brackets (14) and (22) to the gearbox casing.
     (b) Disengage the two brackets (14) and (22) from the studs.
     (c) Carefully move the free ends of the oil tank breather tube (1), the oil tubes (2) and (4) and the oil tank drain tube (13) to permit the oil tank flange to be disengaged from the gearbox casing.
     (d) Disengage the oil tank from the studs on the gearbox.
     (e) Remove the oil tank (21) from the engine.
     (f) Remove and discard the packing (20) from the gearbox flange.

B. Install the applicable COVER - BLANKING on all the openings.
