Installation of the Upper Swivel Joints
WARNING:
WEAR A FACE SHIELD WHICH IS RESISTANT TO HIGH PRESSURE JETS WHEN YOU WORK ON PRESSURIZED SYSTEMS.
WARNING:
DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
- FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
- GET MEDICAL AID.
CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
- ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
- ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THERE IS NO UNWANTED MATERIAL IN THE PORTS AND ORIFICES OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
YOU MUST INSTALL HYDRAULIC TUBES WITH HYDRAULIC FLUID AS LUBRICANT.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.

A. Install the Upper swivel Joints.
(1) Remove the blanking plugs from the disconnected line ends.
(2) Install the upper rod swivel joint as follows:
(a) Lubricate the new AIPC 78-31-49-01-260 PACKING (20) with hydraulic fluid NSA-307-110 type 4 (Material No.CP2212) and install it on fixed part of swivel joint.
(b) Connect the fixed part on the rod supply junction pipe.
(c) TORQUE nut to between 300 and 260 lbf.in (3.39 and 2.94 m.daN )

(d) Connect the other part of joint on the upper rod supply hose.
(e) TORQUE nut to between 150 and 130 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.47 m.daN )
.
(3) Install the upper head swivel joint as follows:
(a) Lubricate the new AIPC 78-31-49-01-250 PREFORMED PACKING (10) with hydraulic fluid NSA-307-110 type 4 (Material No.CP2212) and install it on fixed part of swivel joint.
(b) Connect the fixed part on the head supply junction pipe.
(c) TORQUE nut to between 410 and 370 lbf.in (4.63 and 4.18 m.daN )
.
(d) Connect the other part of joint on the upper rod supply hose.
(e) TORQUE nut to between 260 and 235 lbf.in (2.94 and 2.66 m.daN )
.
(4) Install the upper heat shield on the middle hydraulic line bracket and secure with bolts.
(5) TORQUE bolt to between 30 and 27 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.31 m.daN )
.
5. Close-up(1) Remove the blanking plugs from the disconnected line ends.
(2) Install the upper rod swivel joint as follows:
(a) Lubricate the new AIPC 78-31-49-01-260 PACKING (20) with hydraulic fluid NSA-307-110 type 4 (Material No.CP2212) and install it on fixed part of swivel joint.
(b) Connect the fixed part on the rod supply junction pipe.
(c) TORQUE nut to between 300 and 260 lbf.in (3.39 and 2.94 m.daN )
. (d) Connect the other part of joint on the upper rod supply hose.
(e) TORQUE nut to between 150 and 130 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.47 m.daN )
. (3) Install the upper head swivel joint as follows:
