C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-31-00-210-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. General Visual Inspection (GVI) of the Thrust Reverser Actuation System (TRAS)
   (1) Do not discard a part until you are sure there are no repairs available. If you reject a part and no repair is available, contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) for disposition.
   (2) Visually examine the thrust reverser actuation system TRAS.
     (a) Examine the hydraulic hoses and hose guide bracket on the TRAS.
       1 Examine the deploy hose, the stow hose and the return hose for cuts, tears, holes, gouges, chafing and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged hose (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       2 Examine the hose guide bracket and the related hardware for cracks, gouges, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts and other damage. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
     (b) Examine the locking feedback actuator.
       1 Examine the locking feedback actuator for cracks, corrosion, distortion, dents, deterioration, wear or other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged locking feedback actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       2 Examine the actuator seal for the locking feedback actuator for cracks, gouges, holes and other damage. If you find damage, replace the actuator seal (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       3 Examine the gimbal pins, the retainers and their hardware on the locking feedback actuator for cracks, gouges, corrosion, distortion, missing parts or other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       4 Examine the grounding strap on the locking feedback actuator for damage through the insulation to the wire, damaged or missing lugs, breaks or other damage. Look for damaged or missing related hardware. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
     (c) Examine the TRAS monitoring harness and the 115V track lock harness.
       1 Examine the TRAS monitoring harnesses 4131KS and (4132KS) for cracks, holes, wear, or other damage. If you find damage, replace the harness (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-811) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-811), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-812) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-812) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       2 Examine the TRAS monitoring harness connectors 4052VC, 4053VC, 4003KS-A, 4032KS-A, 4040KS-A, 4042KS-A, 4034KS-A, 4038KS-A, 4046KS-A, (4054VC), (4055VC), (4033KS-A), (4041KS-A), (4004KS-A), (4035KS-A), (4043KS-A), (4039KS-A) and (4047KS-A). Look for cracks, holes, corrosion, wear, or other damage. If you find damage, replace the harness (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-811) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-811), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-812) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-812) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       3 Examine the 115V track lock harness 4136KS and (4137KS) for cracks, holes, wear, or other damage. If you find damage, replace the harness (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-400-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-400-802) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       4 Examine the 115V track lock harness connectors 4050VC, 4141KS-A, (4051VC) and (4142KS-A). Look for cracks, holes, corrosion, wear, or other damage. If you find damage, replace the harness (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-400-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-400-802) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       5 Examine the clamps and attaching hardware for cracks, gouges, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-811) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-811), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-812) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-812), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-400-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-62-400-802).
     (d) Examine the tubes and clamps between the actuators.
       1 Examine the deploy tube for cracks, holes, gouges, dents, distortion, corrosion and other damage. If you find damage, replace the deploy tube (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       2 Examine the clamps and related hardware on the deploy tube for cracks, gouges, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts and other damage. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-400-801).
       3 Examine the two block frames and insert line blocks on the deploy tube for cracks, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts and other damage. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-400-801).
       4 Examine the stow tube and return tube between the actuators for cracks, holes, gouges, dents, distortion, corrosion and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged tube (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       5 Examine the clamps and related hardware on the stow and return tubes for cracks, gouges, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts and other damage. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801).
     (e) Examine the locking actuator.
       1 Examine the locking actuator for cracks, corrosion, distortion, dents, deterioration or other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged locking actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       2 Examine the actuator seal on the locking actuator for cracks, gouges and holes and other damage. If you find damage, replace the actuator seal (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       3 Examine the gimbal pins, retainers and their hardware on the locking actuator for cracks, gouges, corrosion, distortion, missing parts or other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-400-801).
       4 Examine the grounding strap on the locking feedback actuator for damage through the insulation to the wire, damaged or missing lugs, breaks, tears, cracks or other damage. Look for damaged or missing related hardware. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       5 Make sure the wire harness connectors are tight. If a connector is loose, tighten the connector finger-tight, then turn it 1/4 turn more with PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
     (f) Examine the Manual Drive Unit (MDU) on the locking feedback actuator for cracks, corrosion, distortion, dents, deterioration or other damage. If you find damage, replace the MDU (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-05-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-05-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
     (g) Examine the actuator attachment to the translating sleeve.
       1 Remove the translating sleeve access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-34-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-64-000-802).
       2 Examine the rod end of the locking feedback actuator and the attaching hardware. Look for cracks, gouges, nicks, scratches, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-04-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       3 Examine the rod end of the locking actuator and the attaching hardware. Look for cracks, gouges, nicks, scratches, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-03-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       4 Install the translating sleeve access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-34-400-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-64-400-802).
     (h) Examine the track lock valve.
       1 Examine the track lock valve for cracks, corrosion, distortion, dents, deterioration or other damage. If you find damage, replace the track lock valve (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-02-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-02-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       2 Examine the grounding strap on the track lock valve for damage through the insulation to the wire, damaged or missing lugs, breaks, tears, cracks, or other damage. Look for damaged or missing related hardware. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-02-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-02-400-801).
     (i) Examine the tubes below the locking actuator.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE THRUST REVERSER TRANSLATING SLEEVE WITH THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES OPEN. DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
       1 Manually extend the translating sleeve (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-802).
       2 Examine the supply tube, return tubes, track-lock control tube and track-lock return tube below the locking actuator on the forward side of the torque box. Look for cracks, holes, gouges, dents, distortion, corrosion, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged tube (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       3 Examine the clamp and related hardware on the return tube below the locking actuator for cracks, gouges, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts and other damage. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801).
       4 Examine the grommet on the torque box for cracks, gouges, holes, deterioration or other damage. If you find damage, replace the grommet (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801).
       5 Examine the return tubes and track lock control tubes on the aft side of the torque box. Look for cracks, holes, gouges, dents, distortion, corrosion, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged tube (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       6 Examine the clamps and related hardware for the return tubes and track lock control tube on the aft side of the torque box. Look for cracks, gouges, holes, corrosion, loose or missing parts, and other damage. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801).
       7 Examine the grommet on the latch beam for cracks, gouges, holes, deterioration or other damage. If you find damage, replace the grommet (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801).
       8 Manually retract the translating sleeve (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-803).
     (j) Examine the track lock.
       1 Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802).

       2 Remove the track lock cover (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-38-000-801).
       3 Examine the track lock for cracks, corrosion, distortion, dents, deterioration or other damage. If you find damage, replace the track lock (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-01-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-01-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       4 Examine the grounding strap on the track lock for damage through the insulation to the wire, damaged or missing lugs, breaks, tears, cracks or other damage. Look for damaged or missing related hardware. If you find a damaged or missing part, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-01-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-01-400-801).

Examine the pin guard attached to the track lock. Look for gouges, cracks, holes, distortions, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the pin guard (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-01-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-37-01-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.

       6 Examine the track lock return tube, aft track lock return tube, and track lock control tube connections. Look for cracks, holes, gouges, dents, distortion, corrosion, and other damage. If you find damage, replace the damaged tube. (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
       7 Examine the TRAS monitoring harness connections for cracks, holes, corrosion, wear, or other damage. If you find damage, replace the harness (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-811) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-811), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-812) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-812) or contact UTAS for disposition.
5. Close-up
