TASK 74-11-01-400-801-A
Installation of the Ignition Exciter

WARNING: BEFORE YOU REMOVE/INSTALL IGNITION COMPONENTS:
  • WAIT FOR SOME MINUTES AFTER THE IGNITION SYSTEM IS USED
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ENG/MODE SELECTOR SWITCH IS IN THE NORM POSITION.
AFTER YOU REMOVE THE IGNITER LEAD FROM THE IGNITER PLUG, IMMEDIATELY PUT THE IGNITION LEAD TERMINAL IN CONTACT WITH A GOOD GROUND TO LET ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL ENERGY OUT OF THE SYSTEM. THE IGNITION SYSTEM VOLTAGE IS VERY HIGH. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY OR DEATH CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

A. Installation of the Ignition Exciter
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (1) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine. and to prevent damage to the engine.
   (2) Install the ignition exciter (1) to the fan case brackets as follows:
     (a) Install the exciter (1) on the fan case brackets with the four bolts (3).
     (b) TORQUE the four bolts (3) to between 44 and 38 lbf.in (0.50 and 0.43 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Attach the ground strap to the top fan case bracket with the bolt (2).
     (d) TORQUE the bolt (2) to between 44 and 38 lbf.in (0.50 and 0.43 m.daN )
T.
     (e) Connect the ignition cables.
CAUTION: DO NOT TWIST THE IGNITION CABLE WHEN YOU TURN THE COUPLING NUT. THIS COULD DAMAGE THE CABLE.
1 Connect the ignition cables A and B to the exciter receptacles.
     (f) Torque the B-nuts of the both ignition cables A and B.
CAUTION: BE SURE TO TIGHTEN IGNITION CONNECTOR NUTS TO THE CORRECT TORQUE. IF THE TORQUE AT EITHER THE IGNITOR PLUG OR IGNITION EXCITER END OF THE CABLE IS NOT SUFFICIENT, THIS CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL NOISE FROM THE IGNITION SYSTEM IN THE AIRCRAFT RADIO EQUIPMENT.
       1 TORQUE the ignition cables nuts (A and B) to between 160 and 140 lbf.in (1.81 and 1.58 m.daN )
T.
   (3) Connect the wiring harness (W03) connector (P66) to the exciter receptacle (J66) as follows:
     (a) Examine, align and engage the connector.
     (b) Push lightly inward on the connector while you tighten the coupling ring.
     (c) Use the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT and tighten the connector against the receptacle.
     (d) Make sure that you can feel the ratchet feature.
     (e) While you tighten, push the connector in and from side to side.
     (f) Tighten the connector until the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT slip on the connector ring.
   (4) Connect the wiring harness (W04) connector (P67) to the exciter receptacle (J67) as follows:
     (a) Examine, align and engage the connector.
     (b) Push lightly inward on the connector while you tighten the coupling ring.
     (c) Use the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT and tighten the connector against the receptacle.
     (d) Make sure that you can feel the ratchet feature.
     (e) While you tighten, push the connector in and from side to side.
     (f) Tighten the connector until the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT slip on the connector ring.
   (5) Examine the assembly for unwanted objects, damage and correct assembly.
