1. Reason for the Job
There are 20 fuel nozzles installed in each engine. You can use this procedure to remove one or more of the fuel nozzles.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 73-11-40-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)

C. Make sure that the thrust reverser is unserviceable (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).
4. Procedure
Subtask 73-11-40-210-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do an inspection of the gaskets assemblies (190, 220) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001).
   (1) Replace the C-seal in the gaskets assemblies (60, 240, 250) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001).
Subtask 73-11-40-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Install the Fuel Nozzles as follows:
NOTE: The fuel nozzles are given position numbers in a clockwise (CW) sequence when you look at them from the aft of the engine. Position number 1 is at 12 o'clock.
   (1) Remove the protective caps from the fuel nozzles and the combustion chamber bosses.
   (2) Apply a thin layer of vaseline (Material No.CP5070) on the new AIPC 73-11-40-03-020 O-RING (270) for the drain shroud and on the new AIPC 73-11-40-03-020 O-RING (260) for the fuel nozzle.
   (3) Install the new O-ring (270) on the drain shroud.
   (4) Install the new O-ring (260) on the nozzle.
   (5) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.
CP2101) to the tip of the nozzle.
   (6) Install the new AIPC 73-11-40-04-076 SEAL (300) into the seal ring assembly (290) on the flange of the nozzle at the positions 20, 1, 2, 3. Align the holes in the seal ring assembly (290) with the holes in the flange of the nozzle.
   (7) Install the new
AIPC 73-11-40-04-076 SEAL (340) into the seal ring assembly (380) on the flange of the nozzle at the positions 4, 5, 6, 7. Align the holes in the seal ring assembly (380) with the holes in the flange of the nozzle.
   (8) Install the new
AIPC 73-11-40-04-076 SEAL (350) into the seal ring assembly (390) on the flange of the nozzle at the positions 8, 9, 10, 11. Align the holes in the seal ring assembly (390) with the holes in the flange of the nozzle.
   (9) Install the new
AIPC 73-11-40-04-076 SEAL (360) into the seal ring assembly (400) on the flange of the nozzle at the positions 12, 13, 14, 15. Align the holes in the seal ring assembly (400) with the holes in the flange of the nozzle.
   (10) Install the new
AIPC 73-11-40-04-076 SEAL (370) into the seal ring assembly (410) on the flange of the nozzle at the positions 16, 17, 18, 19. Align the holes in the seal ring assembly (410) with the holes in the flange of the nozzle.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE FORCE TO INSTALL THE NOZZLE IN THE COMBUSTION CASE. YOU MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER SWIRL CUP OR TO THE TIP OF THE NOZZLE.
   (11) Install the nozzles in the combustion case as follows:
NOTE: Install standard flow, wide spray angle fuel nozzles in positions 7, 8, 14 and 15 above and below the igniter plugs. These nozzles should have a natural band color.
     (a) Put the nozzle into the combustion case boss with the tip forward.
   (12) Turn the nozzle counterclockwise (CCW) while you push it down onto the combustion case boss.
   (13) Move the nozzle aft to engage the tip of the nozzle in the combustor swirl cup.
   (14) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.
CP2101) or CP2619Never Seez-Pure Nickel, Special to the threads and friction surfaces of the bolts (280, 310) that attach the nozzles to the combustion case.
   (15) Install the nozzles at the positions 1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 15, 17 and 19 as follows:
     (a) Install the bolts (310) that attach the nozzle to the combustion case.
     (b) TORQUE the bolts (310) to between 120 and 110 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Wirelock the bolts (310) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (16) Install the nozzles at the positions 2, 4, 6, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 20 as follows:
     (a) Move the hinge bracket into the correct position.
     (b) Install the long bolts (280) in the hinge bracket and the nozzle flange.
     (c) Install the remaining short bolt (310) in the nozzle flange.
     (d) TORQUE the bolts (280 and 310) to between 120 and 110 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )
T.
     (e) Wirelock the bolts (280 and 310) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (17) Install the nozzles at the positions 8, and 18 as follows:
     (a) Move the hinge bracket into the correct position.
     (b) Put the LPT cooling bracket (320) into position on the top of the hinge bracket.
     (c) Install the long bolts (280) in the hinge bracket, cooling bracket (320) and the nozzle flange.
     (d) Install the remaining short bolt (310) in the nozzle flange.
     (e) TORQUE the bolts (280 and 310) to between 120 and 110 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )
T.
     (f) Wirelock the bolts (280 and 310) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (18) Install the nozzles at the positions 3, and 13 as follows:
     (a) Put the LPT cooling bracket (330) in the correct position on the nozzle flange.
     (b) Install 2 long bolts (280) in the cooling bracket (330) and the nozzle flange.
     (c) Install the remaining short bolt (310) in the nozzle flange.
     (d) TORQUE the bolts (280 and 310) to between 120 and 110 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )
T.
     (e) Wirelock the bolts (280 and 310) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia..
   (19) Apply a small amount of fuel system preventative (Material No.
CP5066) to the threads of the nozzles.
   (20) Tighten the coupling nut that connects the fuel nozzle to the fuel manifold three times, to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN ) T as follows:
     (a) Tighten the coupling nut, to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN )

     (b) Loosen the coupling nut one-half turn and tighten it again, to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN )

     (c) Loosen the coupling nut one-half turn and tighten it again, to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN )
T.
   (21) Do the leak check of the fuel manifold (
Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-40-790-001).
   (22) Wirelock the fuel tube coupling nut to the tab on the nozzle with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia
   (23) Connect the drain shroud to the nozzle. Tighten the drain shroud using soft-jawed connector pliers until the shroud nut bottoms out.
NOTE: When the shroud nut is bottomed out, no more than two full threads should be exposed on the fuel nozzle.
   (24) Connect the drain tube to the fuel nozzle drain shroud. TORQUE the coupling nut to between 150 and 135 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.53 m.daN ) T.
   (25) Do a leak check of the fuel nozzle drain system (
Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-40-790-001).
   (26) Wirelock the drain shroud coupling nut to the nozzle with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
Subtask 73-11-40-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. If removed, install the HPT clearance control manifold as follows:
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WITH THE HPTCC MANIFOLD. IT IS COVERED WITH INSULATION FOIL THAT CAN BE EASILY CUT OR DENTED. DO NOT DAMAGE THE INSULATION FOIL.
   (1) Remove the protective covers from the ends of the HPT clearance control manifold (40). Also, remove the protective covers from the combustion case bosses and the HPTCC.
   (2) Install the new AIPC 73-11-40-01-040 C-SEAL (250) on the upper combustion case boss.
Align the holes in the C-seal (250) with the holes in the combustion case boss.
   (3) Install the new
AIPC 73-11-40-01-040 C-SEAL (240) on the lower combustion case boss.
Align the holes in the C-seal (240) with the holes in the combustion case boss.
   (4) Put the manifold in position on the upper and the lower combustion case bosses.
   (5) Temporarily install the bolts (230) in the manifold (40) and the upper combustion case boss. Do not tighten them at this time.
   (6) Temporarily install the bolts (230) in the manifold (40) and the lower combustion case boss. Do not tighten them at this time.
   (7) Install the new
AIPC 75-21-10-01-120 C-SEAL (60) between the HPTCC and the end of the manifold (40). Align the holes in the C-seal (60) with the holes in the manifold (40) and the valve.
   (8) Install the LPT discharge bracket (70) on the manifold (40) flange with the bolts (80, 120) and washers (130) if applicable, and nuts (50). Install the top bolt (80) with the head forward and the bottom bolt (120) with the head aft.
   (9) Install the remaining bolts (80, 120), washers (130) if applicable, and the nuts (50). Install the top bolt (80) with the head forward and the bottom bolt (120) with the head aft.
   (10) TORQUE the nuts (50) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (11) TORQUE the bolts (230) at the upper combustion case boss to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (12) TORQUE the bolts (230) at the lower combustion case boss to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (13) Wirelock the bolts (230) at the upper combustion case boss with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (14) Wirelock the bolts (230) at the upper combustion case boss with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (15) Put the strap clamp (160) on the manifold (40) at the upper middle bracket. Install the bolts (150) and nuts (170).
   (16) TORQUE the nuts (170) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (17) Put the strap clamp (160) on the manifold (40) at the lower middle bracket. Install the bolts (150).
   (18) TORQUE the bolts (150) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (19) Put the strap clamp (160) on the manifold (40) at the lower middle bracket. Install the bolts (150) and the nuts (170).
   (20) TORQUE the nuts (170) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )

E. If removed, install the air start tube as follows:
   (1) Remove the protective covers from the air start tube (10). Also, remove the protective covers from the combustion case boss and the HPTCC.
   (2) Install the
AIPC 73-11-40-01-020 E-SEAL (190) on the combustion case boss. Align the holes in the E-seal (190) with the holes in the boss.
   (3) Put the tube (10) in position on the combustion case boss.
Temporarily install the bolts (180). Do not torque to bolts (180) at this time.
   (4) Install the
AIPC 75-21-10-01-080 GASKET (220) between the end of the tube (10) and the HPTCC valve.
   (5) Install the bolts (210) and nuts (50) between the tube (10) and the HPTCC valve.
   (6) TORQUE the nut (50) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (7) TORQUE the bolts (180) at the combustion case boss to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (8) Install the loop clamp (200) on the tube (10) at the upper bracket.
   (9) Install the bolt (150), washer (130) and nuts (170) on the loop clamp (200) and the upper bracket.
   (10) TORQUE the nut (170) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (11) Install the strap clamp (140) on the tube (10) at the upper middle bracket.
   (12) Install the bolt (150) and nuts (170) on the strap clamp (140) and the middle bracket.
   (13) TORQUE the nut (170) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
   (14) Wirelock the bolts (180) at the combustion case boss with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
