3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-56-00-941-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Remove the flame arrestor and the flange assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 72-56-00-000-003).
4. Procedure
Subtask 72-56-00-020-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Rear Sump Oil Supply Tube (70)
PRE SB CFMI 72-212
PRE SB CFMI 72-364
   (1) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the coupling nut of the oil supply tube (70).
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
   (2) Loosen the coupling nut of the oil supply tube (70) from the nipple (40) on the oil inlet cover (30).
   (3) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the bolts (90).
   (4) Remove the bolts (90) and disengage the end fitting (80) from the LPT frame.
   (5) Lower the oil supply tube (70) in the LPT frame strut.

B. Removal of the Rear Sump Oil Supply Tubes (100), (120)
POST SB CFMI 72-212
PRE SB CFMI 72-364
   (1) Cut and remove the lockwires which safety the tube coupling nuts.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
   (2) Loosen the coupling nut of the oil supply tube (120) from the nipple (40) on the oil inlet cover (30).
   (3) Loosen the coupling nuts of the damping oil tube (100) from the nipple (110) and from the oil supply tube (120).
   (4) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the bolts (90).
   (5) Remove the bolts (90) and disengage the end fitting (80) from the LPT frame.
   (6) Remove the damping oil tube (100).
   (7) Lower the oil supply tube (120) in the LPT frame.

C. Removal of the Rear Sump Oil Supply Tubes (100), (130), (140)
POST SB CFMI 72-364
   (1) Cut and remove all the lockwires which safety the tube coupling nuts.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
   (2) Loosen the coupling nut of the oil supply tube (130) from the nipple (40).
   (3) Loosen the coupling nuts of the damping oil tube (100) from the nipple (110) on the No. 5 bearing support and from the oil supply tube (130).
   (4) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the sleeve locking nut.
   (5) Loosen the sleeve locking nut to free the oil supply tube (140) in the LPT frame strut.
   (6) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the bolts (90).
   (7) Remove the bolts (90) and disengage the end fitting (80) from the LPT frame.
   (8) Lower the oil supply tube (140) in the LPT frame strut.
   (9) Remove the oil supply tube (130) and the damping oil tube (100).

D. Removal of the Rear Sump Oil Supply Tubes (100), (130), (140)
POST SB CFMI 72-430
   (1) Cut and remove all the lockwires which safety the tube coupling nuts.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
   (2) Loosen the coupling nut of the oil supply tube (130) from the nipple (40).
   (3) Loosen the coupling nuts of the damping oil tube (100) from the nipple (110) on the No. 5 bearing support and from the oil supply tube (130).
   (4) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the bolts (90).
   (5) Remove the bolts (90) and disengage the end fitting (80) from the LPT frame.
   (6) Lower the oil supply tube (140) in the LPT frame strut.
   (7) Remove the oil supply tube (130) and the damping oil tube (100).

E. Removal of the Oil Inlet Cover
   (1) Remove the bolts (20) which attach the oil inlet cover (30) to the No. 5 bearing support.
   (2) Install the 856A3419G02 ADAPTER, PULLER - OIL INLET COVER on the rear flange of the oil inlet cover (30).
   (3) Remove the oil inlet cover (30).
   (4) Remove and discard the O-ring (60).

PRE SB CFMI 72-259
   (5) Not applicable.
NOTE: PRE SB CFMI 72-259, engines do not have gasket seal.

POST CFMI 72-259
   (6) Remove and discard the gasket seal (10).

   (7) Remove the 856A3419G02 ADAPTER, PULLER - OIL INLET COVER from the oil inlet cover (30).
   (8) Cut and remove the lockwire which safeties the nipple (40) to the oil inlet cover (30).
   (9) Remove the nipple (40) from the oil inlet cover (30).
   (10) Remove and discard the O-ring (50).

F. Inspection of the Oil Inlet Cover
   (1) Check for rubs marks from seal teeth in the abradable coating of the oil inlet cover.
     (a) If marks are found with an average less than 0.010 in. (0.2540 mm) deep over entire circumference, the oil inlet cover is serviceable.
     (b) If marks are found with an average more than 0.010 in. (0.2540 mm) deep over entire circumference, the oil inlet cover must be sent to shop for repair.

G. Inspection of the Flame Arrestor
   (1) If you find particles on the flame arrestor:
NOTE: Silver filaments are possible during engine break-in, caused by the initial penetration of the rear Center Vent Tube (CVT) seal teeth into the silver abradable sleeve located on the oil inlet cover.
     (a) Remove all particles from the flame arrestor.
     (b) Examine the AFT sump scavenge screen (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-10-210-002).
     (c) Make sure that the oil consumption is in the limits (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-001).
