Removal of the Fan Rotor Blades
CAUTION:
ALL FAN ROTOR BLADES SHALL BE MATCHMARKED OR NUMBERED FOR ASSEMBLY IN ORIGINAL ALIGNMENT AND POSITION USING ONLY APPROVED MARKING MATERIAL.
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL IF THESE MARKS ARE SHOWN ON THE HUB OF THE REWORKED FAN DISK: "SHIMS REQUIRED" AND "DISK REPAIRED". DAMAGE CAN OCCUR IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW CORRECT PROCEDURES FOR ENGINES POST CFM56 SB 72-0621.
CAUTION:
FOR ENGINES POST CFM56 SB 72-0621, BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU HANDLE THE SHIMS. THEY ARE THIN AND ARE EASILY DAMAGED. DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SHIMS FROM THE FAN BLADE ROOTS. THE COATING ON THE FAN BLADES AND THE SHIMS IS EASILY DAMAGED. OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS OR YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

A. Remove the blade retainers:
PRE SB CFM 72-0621
(2) Remove, partially or completely, the O-ring (60) located between the fan blade platform (110) and the fan disk (80).
(3) Slide the spacer (90) toward the front of the fan disk (80) with the 856A2700 ADAPTER,PULLER-FAN BLADE SPACERS (856A2700G01), until the blade retainer (100) is released.
(4) Slide down the blade retainer (100) located in the fan disk (80). Remove the blade retainer.
(6) Slide the adjacent blades forward, if necessary, as follows:
(a) Pull the spacer (90) under the adjacent blade forward with the 856A2700 ADAPTER,PULLER-FAN BLADE SPACERS (856A2700G01) and HAMMER SNAP-ON CG240-9 - SLIDE, PULLER and HAMMER SNAP-ON CG240-9 - SLIDE, PULLER. Slide down and remove the retainer (100).
(b) Move the blade (110) radially inward to disengage the mid-span shroud. Then slide the blade forward until it comes out of the dovetail slot.
(c) Remove blade damper from the disk.
(d) Do the steps (a), (b) and (c) for the other adjacent blade.

NOTE: This procedure is for ENGINES PRE CFM56 SB 72-0621 with a non-reworked fan disk only.
(1) Make temporary mark on each blade: CAUTION:
USE ONLY APPROVED MARKING MATERIAL TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE BLADES.
(a) Temporarily mark each blade (110) from 1 to 36 on their convex side. Use a temporary marking (Material No.CP5061) . Blade No. 1 is the blade immediately above the offset hole in the fan disk bolt flange. Numbering is counterclockwise (CCW), forward locking aft.
NOTE: Removal will be easier if you set the fan blade, that you must remove, at the 12 o'clock location.
(5) Move the blade (110) radially inward to disengage the mid-span shroud. Then slide the blade forward until it comes out of the dovetail slot. Remove the blade damper (70). (6) Slide the adjacent blades forward, if necessary, as follows:
