Rigging Procedure of the Fan Cowl Keeper Proximity Sensors


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

1. Reason for the Job
The fan cowl keeper proximity sensors must be adjusted each time the fan cowl keeper proximity sensors and/or the housings No. 1, 2 and 3 are replaced.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-51-941-052-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch,
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-51-020-052-A
A. Removal of the Sheet Metal Protection
   (1) Remove the bolts (3) and washers (2).
   (2) Remove the sheet metal protections (1), (4) and (5) from the fan cowl door.
Subtask 71-13-51-820-050-A
B. Target Rigging Procedure (PRE SPOL BD-FC-19004)
NOTE: The procedure is the same for the three sensors.
   (1) If removed, put in position the proximity sensor (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801) with:
   (2) Measure the gap between the proximity sensor (7) and the target (the keeper must be in the closed position).
     (a) Do a check of the relative position of the target with the proximity sensor (7):
       1 The keeper is in open position, the target has any part in front of the proximity sensor (7).
       2 The keeper is in closed position, the target must be in front of the proximity sensor (7).
         a If the target is not in front of the proximity sensor (7), a full target rigging procedure must be performed. Go to Para.4.D.
         b If there is no misrigging do Step 4.B.(2)(b).
     (b) The keeper is in the closed position, measure the gap between the sensor and the target. The gap must be 2 +0.1 mm or -0.4 mm (0.0787 +0.0039 in. or -0.0157 in.).
       1 Use a GAGE - FEELER to check the gap.
   (3) If an adjustment of the gap is necessary, install a new
AIPC 71-13-10-21-010 PEELING WAHSER (8) and adjust it to get the correct gap (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
   (4) Check the correct operation of the electrical CLP:
     (a) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
     (b) Close the two fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803).
     (c) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are in the closed position and correctly latched.
     (d) Put the ECAM in the maintenance mode.
     (e) Open and close each latch.
     (f) Make sure that the ECAM shows that the electric CLP system operates correctly.
     (g) If a misrigging of the target is detected, a full target rigging procedure must be performed. Go to Para.4.D.
     (h) If there is no misrigging, do Step 4.B.(5).
   (5) When the proximity sensor (7) is in the correct position, fully open the two fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803).
   (6) Remove the nut (11).
   (7) Put in position the new AIPC 71-13-10-21-040 LOCK WASHER (10) and the nut (11) on the fan cowl keeper proximity sensor (7).
   (8) Tighten the nut (11) to get contact with the locking washer (10).
   (9) TORQUE the nut (11) to between 1.27 and 0.73 m.daN (112.39 and 64.60 lbf.in )
T.
   (10) Bend the
AIPC 71-13-10-21-040 LOCK WASHER (10).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (11) Plug the harness connector (6) to the proximity sensor (7) (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
   (12) If necessary, do the procedure described in Para.4.B.(1) thru 4.B.(9) again for the other proximity sensors.

C. Target Rigging Procedure (POST SPOL BD-FC-19004 )
NOTE: The procedure is the same for the three sensors.
   (1) If removed, put in position the proximity sensor (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801) with:
   (2) Measure the gap between the proximity sensor (7) and the target (the keeper must be in the closed position).
     (a) Do a check of the relative position of the target with the proximity sensor (7):
       1 The keeper is in open position, the target has any part in front of the proximity sensor (7).
       2 The keeper is in closed position, the target must be in front of the proximity sensor (7).
         a If the target is not in front of the proximity sensor (7), a full target rigging procedure must be performed. Go to Para.4.E.
         b If there is no misrigging do Step 4.C.(2)(b).
     (b) The keeper is in the closed position, measure the gap between the sensor and the target. The gap must be 2 +0.1 mm or -0.4 mm (0.0787 +0.0039 in. or -0.0157 in.).
       1 Use a GAGE - FEELER to check the gap.
   (3) If an adjustment of the gap is necessary, install a new
AIPC 71-13-10-21-010 PEELING WASHER (8) and adjust it to get the correct gap (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
   (4) Check the correct operation of the electrical CLP:
     (a) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
     (b) Close the two fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803).
     (c) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are in the closed position and correctly latched.
     (d) Put the ECAM in the maintenance mode.
     (e) Open and close each latch.
     (f) Make sure that the ECAM shows that the electric CLP system operates correctly.
     (g) If a misrigging of the target is detected, a full target rigging procedure must be performed. Go to Para.4.E.
     (h) If there is no misrigging, do Step 4.C.(5).
   (5) When the proximity sensor (7) is in the correct position, fully open the two fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803).
   (6) Remove the nut (11).
   (7) Put in position the nut (10) and the nut (11) on the fan cowl keeper proximity sensor (7).
   (8) Tighten the nut (11) to get contact with the nut (11).
   (9) TORQUE the nut (11) to between 1.16 and 0.88 m.daN (102.65 and 77.88 lbf.in ) T.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (10) Plug the harness connector (6) to the proximity sensor (7) (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
   (11) If necessary, do the procedure described in Para.4.B.(1) thru 4.B.(9) again for the other proximity sensors.
Subtask 71-13-51-820-051-A
D. If Misrigging is detected, do this Target Rigging Procedure (PRE SPOL BD-FC-19004 )
   (1) Follow this sequence:
  • Forward sensor, middle sensor and aft sensor.
   (2) Forward Sensor:
     (a) If removed, put in position the proximity sensor (7) with the:
     (b) Pull the clevis to move the target from the expanded position (latch in the open position) to the compressed position (latch in the closed position).
     (c) Use a GAGE - PUSH-PULL to compress the keeper. The force necessary is between 5.3377 daN (12.00 lbf) and 6.6723 daN (15.00 lbf).
     (d) To adjust the target, turn the adjusting nut with a WRENCH - HEXAGONAL. The target must stay aligned with the electrical detector in the compressed position.
     (e) Measure the gap between the proximity sensor and the target (the keeper must be in the closed position):
       1 In the closed position, measure the gap with a GAGE - FEELER the proximity sensor and the target. The gap must be 2 +0.1 mm or -0.4 mm (0.0787 +0.0039 in. or -0.0157 in.).
     (f) If an adjustment of the gap is necessary, install a new
AIPC 71-13-10-21-010 PEELING WASHER (8) and adjust it to get the correct gap (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
     (g) Check the correct operation of the electrical CLP:
       1 Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
       2 Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803).
       3 Make sure that fan cowl doors are in the closed position and correctly latched.
       4 Put the ECAM in the maintenance mode.
       5 Open and close each latch.
       6 Make sure that the ECAM shows that electric CLP system operates correctly.
     (h) When the proximity sensor (7) is in the correct position, remove the nut (11).
     (i) Put in position the new AIPC 71-13-10-21-040 LOCK WASHER (10) and the nut (11) on the fan cowl keeper proximity sensor (7).
     (j) Tighten the nut (11) to get contact with the locking washer (10).
     (k) TORQUE the nut (11) to between 1.27 and 0.73 m.daN (112.39 and 64.60 lbf.in )
T.
     (l) Bend the
AIPC 71-13-10-21-040 LOCK WASHER (10).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (m) Plug the harness connectors (6) to the proximity sensor (7). (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
   (3) Middle sensor:
     (a) Do the procedure given in Para 4.D. again.
   (4) Aft Sensor:
     (a) Do the procedure given in Para 4.D. again.

E. If Misrigging is detected, do this Target Rigging Procedure (POST SPOL BD-FC-19004)
   (1) Follow this sequence:
  • Forward sensor, middle sensor and aft sensor.
   (2) Forward Sensor:
     (a) If removed, put in position the proximity sensor (7) with the:
     (b) Pull the clevis to move the target from the expanded position (latch in the open position) to the compressed position (latch in the closed position).

       1 Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
       2 Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803).
       3 Make sure that fan cowl doors are in the closed position and correctly latched.
       4 Put the ECAM in the maintenance mode.
       5 Open and close each latch.
       6 Make sure that the ECAM shows that electric CLP system operates correctly.
     (h) When the proximity sensor (7) is in the correct position, remove the nut (11).
     (i) Put in position the nut (10) and the nut (11) on the fan cowl keeper proximity sensor (7).
     (j) Tighten the nut (11) to get contact with the nut (10).
     (k) TORQUE the nut (11) to between 1.16 and 0.88 m.daN (102.65 and 77.88 lbf.in ) T.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (l) Plug the harness connectors (6) to the proximity sensor (7). (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-51-400-801).
   (3) Middle sensor:
     (a) Do the procedure given in Para 4.E. again.
   (4) Aft Sensor:
     (a) Do the procedure given in Para 4.E. again.
Subtask 71-13-51-420-052-A
F. Installation of the Sheet Metal Protection
   (1) Put the sheet metal protections (1), (4) and (5) in position on the fan cowl door.
   (2) Install the bolts (3) and washers (2).
   (3) TORQUE the bolts (3) to between 0.48 and 0.37 m.daN (42.48 and 32.74 lbf.in ) T.
   (4) Brush seal the fasteners with MASTINOX D40 (Material No.
CPNCL00338) .

   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
