Installation of the Starter Flapper Door


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-48-941-053-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch,
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Make sure that the slats are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).
   (4) Make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is on the flap and slat control lever on panel 114VU.

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-48-420-051-A
A. Installation of the Starter Flapper Door
   (1) Clean the starter flapper door (2) and the mating surfaces of the fan cowl door. Use Diestone DLS (Material No.CPNCL02589) and Textile - lint free cotton (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
   (2) Carefully put the starter flapper door (2) in position on the fan cowl door.
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the liquid shim. Do Para. 4.A.(3)(a) thru Para. 4.A.(3)(j) only if the liquid shim is damaged:
     (a) Remove the liquid or liquid/solid shim from the mating surface of the fan cowl door.
     (b) Clean the starter flapper door (2) and the mating surface of the fan cowl door. Use non-aqueous Diestone DLS (Material No.CPNCL02589) and Textile - lint free cotton (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
     (c) Install the starter flapper door (2) temporarily on the fan cowl door. Use the bolts (1) and the new AIPC 71-13-80-03-020 NUT (3).
     (d) Measure and record the maximum distance between the starter flapper door (2) and fan cowl door.
     (e) Remove the starter flapper door (2), the bolts (1) and the nuts (3) from the fan cowl door.
     (f) Apply a liquid or liquid/solid shim:
       1 If the maximum distance recorded in Para. 4.A.(3)(d) is 0.50 mm (0.02 in.) or less, apply a liquid shim of CPNCL01027Two part paste adhesive (Hysol EA 9394).
       2 If the maximum distance recorded in Para. 4.A.(3)(d) is between 0.51 mm (0.02 in.) and 1.2 mm (0.05 in.), apply a liquid/solid shim of CPNCL01027Two part paste adhesive (Hysol EA 9394) and a solid shim of CPNCL02159Epoxy carbon prepreg - plain weave 193 gsm 180 deg.C (356.00 deg.F).
       3 A clearance more than 1.2 mm (0.05 in.) is not permitted.
     (g) Apply Release agent QZ 5111 (Material No.
CPNCL00245) on the starter flapper door (2) contact surface zone.
     (h) Install the starter flapper door (2) temporarily on the fan cowl door. Use the bolts (1) and the nuts (3).
     (i) Let the sealant cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the cure time.
     (j) Remove the starter flapper door (2), bolts (1) and nuts (3) from the fan cowl door.
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Sealant MC780B (Material No.CPNCL01420) on the mating surfaces of the starter flapper door (2).
   (5) Carefully put the starter flapper door (2) in position on the fan cowl door.
   (6) Let the sealant cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the cure time.
   (7) Remove the unwanted sealant.
   (8) Fill/seal the groove between the fan cowl door and the starter flapper door (2) with Polysulfide sealant - general purpose interfay (Material No.CPNCL01237) .
   (9) Install the starter flapper door (2) with bolts (1) and new AIPC 71-13-80-03-020 NUT (3).
   (10) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 0.25 and 0.22 m.daN (22.12 and 19.47 lbf.in )

   (11) Apply Sealant MC780B (Material No.
CPNCL01420) and CPNCL00700Direct adhesion topcoat 4125/6407 (Blue varnish) to the two electrical bonding points (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap and slat control lever on panel 114VU.
   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
