Adjustment of the Latch Position Detection Device


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

1. Reason for the Job
Each time you replace items on the mechanical cowl loss prevention equipment (lever, keeper, flag or push-pull cable) you must check the system. If any miss-rigging is found, an adjustment procedure must be performed.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-41-941-059-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
   (3) Get access to the latch detection assembly inside the LH fan cowl door.
4. Procedure
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE SLATS ARE RETRACTED AND INHIBITED. MOVEMENT OF THE SLATS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE.

A. Check of the Flag Position
   (1) Pull the keeper to close the flag.
   (2) Do a check of the position of the flag. The flag must stay flush with the fan cowl skin.
     (a) If the flag does not stay flush with the fan cowl skin, go to Para. 4.B.
     (b) If the flag stays flush with the fan cowl skin, go to Para. 5.A.

B. Adjustment of the Latch Position Detection Assembly
   (1) Make sure that the flag is in the closed position.
   (2) Removal of the lockwire:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) At one end of the push-pull cable (1), remove and discard the lockwire (3) from the upper retention nut (2) or from the lower retention nut (5).
   (3) Release the upper retention nut (2) or the lower retention nut (5).
   (4) Turn the upper rig nut (4) or the lower rig nut (6) until the flag is flush with the fan cowl skin.
   (5) TORQUE the upper retention nut (2) or the lower retention nut (5) to between 0.7 and 0.6 m.daN (61.95 and 53.10 lbf.in ) T.
   (6) Installation of the lockwire:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Safety the upper retention nut (2) or the lower retention nut (5) with the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (3).

C. Check and Adjustment of the Latch Position Detection Assembly
   (1) After the system installation, the following checks must be done:
     (a) Make sure that the system works correctly when you pull the keeper.
     (b) With the keeper in the closed position, the flag must stay flush with the fan cowl skin.
     (c) With the system in the open position, make sure that the flag is fully open.
       1 If the flag is not deployed, examine the flag hole for blockage.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (
