Removal of the Flag Assy


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE SLATS ARE RETRACTED AND INHIBITED. MOVEMENT OF THE SLATS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE.

Subtask 71-13-41-941-062-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch,
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Make sure that the slats are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).
   (4) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap and slat control lever on panel 114VU.

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
   (3) Get access to the latch detection assembly inside the LH fan cowl door.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-41-020-057-A
A. Removal of the Flag Assy
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Make sure that the pin (14) and the safety pin (15) are in position: flag serviceable.
   (2) At the upper end of the push-pull cable (1), remove the cotter pin (3), washer (2) and pin (4). Discard the cotter pin (3).
   (3) Remove the bolts (9) and the washers (10) that attach the cover (11) to the fan cowl door.
   (4) Remove the cover (11) from the fan cowl door.
   (5) On the lever mechanical system (5), remove the cotter pin (18), the nut (17), and the washer (16). Discard the cotter pin (18) and the nut (17).
   (6) Remove the lever mechanical system (5), the springs (7) and (8) and the bushing (12) and, if necessary the bushing (13).
NOTE: Record the position of each spring (7) and (8) in order to install them in the same position.
   (7) Remove the flag assy (6) from the fan cowl door.
