BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the ENG section of the maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is OFF.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 71-13-13-010-060-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
Subtask 71-13-13-220-060-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do a Visual Inspection of the Fan Cowl Latches as follows:
(1) Visual inspection of the left fan cowl latches.
(a) Examine the fan cowl latches for damage and distortion. If damage is found, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(b) Visually inspect the fan cowl latches for cracks. If cracks are found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(c) Examine the fan cowl latches for nicks, scratches, gouges, or excessive wear. If damage or wear is more than 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) in depth, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(d) Examine the fan cowl latches for a weak spring. If a weak spring is found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(2) Do a visual inspection of the adjustable keepers of the right fan cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-220-041).
Subtask 71-13-13-220-061-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Visual inspection of the left fan cowl latches.
(a) Examine the fan cowl latches for damage and distortion. If damage is found, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(b) Visually inspect the fan cowl latches for cracks. If cracks are found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(c) Examine the fan cowl latches for nicks, scratches, gouges, or excessive wear. If damage or wear is more than 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) in depth, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
(d) Examine the fan cowl latches for a weak spring. If a weak spring is found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041).
NOTE: A weak handle spring has no effect on the latching mechanism, however it reduces the handle opening angle and its visibility when hanging down.
NOTE: You must use a FLASHLIGHT and an MIRROR - INSPECTION to examine areas of the fan cowl latches that are difficult to see.
(e) Make sure that the fan cowl latches are attached correctly. Tighten or replace the attachment hardware, as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-041). (2) Do a visual inspection of the adjustable keepers of the right fan cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-220-041).
B. Visual Inspection of the Area around the Latches and Adjustable Keepers
Refer to allowable damage limits in CFM56-5B section for area limits SRM 542000.
(1) Disbond/delamination, hole or dent damage sizes not covered per allowable damage limits in CFM56-5B, are not allowed SRM 542000.
(a) The fan cowl doors must be replaced (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-11-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-11-400-041).
5. Close-upRefer to allowable damage limits in CFM56-5B section for area limits SRM 542000.

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040):

(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
