General Visual Inspection of the Fan Cowl Doors

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.

CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-11-941-087-A

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:

The ENG/MODE selector switch
The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.

(2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
(1) Get access to the left and right fan-cowl doors.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-11-210-074-A

A. Do the General Visual Inspection of the External Side of the Left and Right Fan-Cowl Doors.
(1) On the external side of the left and right fan-cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:

External skin
Strake structure and fixations
Access doors and surrounding structure: CLP flag, Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) and oil tank door
Ventilation grip and surrounding structure
Forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door.

(2) If you find damage (nicks, dents, scratches and gouges), refer to SRM 542000.
(3) On the external side of the left and right fan-cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:

Access doors and surrounding structure: starter flapper door
Interphone jack (optional)
Hoisting points and plugs.

(4) If you find damage (nicks, dents, scratches and gouges), contact SAFRAN Nacelles.

B. Removal of the Access Platform
(1) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE.

(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

D. Get Access
(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

E. Do the General Visual Inspection of the Internal Side of the Left and Right Fan-Cowl Doors
(1) On the internal side of the left and right fan-cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:

Internal skin: skin, RTM beams and circumferential stiffeners
Ventilation grids
Forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door.

(2) If you find damage (nicks, dents, scratches and gouges), refer to SRM 542000.
(3) On the internal side of the left and right fan-cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:

Electrical CLP: the harness and connectors
Mechanical CLP: teleflex, flag box assy
Interphone jack (optional)
Hold-open rods
Keeper housings (only external surface) and latch housing
Locators and guide ramps
Access doors surrounding surface.

(4) If you find damage (nicks, dents, scratches and gouges), contact SAFRAN Nacelles.

5. Close-up

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):

(3) Remove the access platform(s).
