1. Reason for the Job
Refer to the MPD TASK: 711300-I2
FUNCTIONAL CHECK OF FAN COWL LATCH TENSION
NOTE: SBN71-0331 (equivalent to Airbus service bulletin SB 71-1069) introduces a lockable latch in the forward position (latch number 1) that must be opened and closed and locked with a key and flag assembly. The key and flag assembly are stowed in the cockpit and must not be used if there is damage to the key or flag.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-00-941-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
4. Procedure

A. Do this test:

Use feeler gages to measure Dimension X.
Dimension X should be 0 in. (0.0 mm).
If Dimension X is not 0 in. (0.0 mm) adjustment is necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-800-011).

B. Open each of the four latches on the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010)
NOTE: The tension on each latch is measured with the other three latches in the closed position.
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

C. Do this test:
F Spigot and Bumper Adjustment ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
ACTION
RESULT
Use the SPRING BALANCE 30 DAN (72 LBF) on the end of the latch handle (15) and measure the force necessary to close each of the four latches.
The force necessary to close each of the four latches must be between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 40 lbf (17.79 daN). If the force is not in the limits given, adjustment is necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-800-011).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Make sure the fan cowls are closed correctly (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010).
