WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TELESCOPIC HOR'S ARE LOCKED CORRECTLY IN THE EXTENDED POSITION. IF THEY ARE NOT, THE COWL DOORS CAN CLOSE ACCIDENTALLY.
WARNING: DO NOT KEEP A FAN COWL DOOR OPEN WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 45 KNOTS (83 KM/H) OR MORE. IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL DOOR, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: WHEN ONE HOR IS MISSING, MAKE SURE THAT THE MAXIMUM WIND SPEED FOR THIS OPERATION IS NOT MORE THAN 40 KNOTS (74 KM/H). INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL(S).
WARNING: WHEN THE TWO HOR'S ARE MISSING ON THE SAME FAN COWL DOOR SIDE, DO THE WORK IN A HANGAR OR A CLOSED AREA. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU HANDLE THE LATCHES, DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE. IF EXCESSIVE FORCE IS NECESSARY, DO AN INSPECTION OF THE FAN COWL DOORS.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT AT OPEN POSITION, THE WEIGHT OF THE FAN COWL DOOR IS SUPPORTED BY THE SLING-FC POSITION.

Subtask 71-13-00-941-087-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Get access to the fan cowl door.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

A. Removal of the Filler Plugs
   (1) Remove the filler plugs (1) from the lower hoist points on the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for installation when the task is completed.
   (2) Remove the filler plugs (1) from the upper hoist points on the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for installation when the task is completed.

B. Installation of the Tooling
   (1) Put the fan cowl sling (3) of the 98N7110H001-000 FAN COWL HOISTING DEVICE in position on the fan cowl door.
   (2) Install the pad universal attach (5) of the 98N7110H001-000 FAN COWL HOISTING DEVICE, on the hoist points of the fan cowl door with the pad universal attach screw (4).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).

C. Opening of the Fan Cowl Door with One or More Hold Open Rods (HORs) Missing
   (1) Opening of the fan cowl door with one HOR missing
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL DOOR MORE THAN NECESSARY. IF THE DOOR IS OPENED TOO FAR, THE HINGE FITTING CAN BE DAMAGED AND SECONDARY DAMAGE TO THE COWLING AND PYLON CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Lift the fan cowl door as follows:
       1 Unlatch the fan cowl door (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803).
       2 Lift the fan cowl door until the weight of the door is supported by the fan cowl sling (3).
       3 Lift the door with the fan cowl sling (3), sufficiently to get access to the work area.
       4 Check of the latch handles
CAUTION: DO NOT ENGAGE THE LATCH HANDLE HOOKS WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN.
         a Check the latch handles.
     (b) For safety issues, it is mandatory to install and lock the operative HOR (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803).
   (2) Opening of the fan cowl door with both HORs missing on the same fan cowl door side
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL DOOR MORE THAN NECESSARY. IF THE DOOR IS OPENED TOO FAR, THE HINGE FITTING CAN BE DAMAGED AND SECONDARY DAMAGE TO THE COWLING AND PYLON CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Lift the fan cowl door as follows:
       1 Lift the fan cowl door until the weight of the door is supported by the fan cowl sling (3).
       2 Unlatch the fan cowl door (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803).
       3 Lift the door with the fan cowl sling (3), sufficiently to get access to the work area.
       4 Check of the latch handles
CAUTION: DO NOT ENGAGE THE LATCH HANDLE HOOKS WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN.
         a Check the latch handles.

D. Make a record in the aircraft logbook that the fan cowl doors have been opened.
