Removal of the Air Intake Cowl


WARNING: BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE AIR INTAKE COWL. IT WEIGHS 328 Lb (149 kg). IF IT FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. 3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-11-00-941-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-11-00-020-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Disconnection
   (1) Disconnect the electrical connector of the phone jack 4001VC from the fan case receptacle. Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the connector and the receptacle.
   (2) Remove the Fan Case Right Side Harness Assembly from the brackets (two locations) on the air intake cowl.
   (3) Disconnect the electrical connector from the T12 sensor unit. Install COVER - PROTECTION on the sensor unit and the connector.
   (4) Disconnect the fire extinguisher hose assembly from the pylon tube assembly at the forward LH side of the pylon area. Install COVER - PROTECTION on the fittings of the tube and hose assemblies.

B. Removal of the Hardware
   (1) Remove the anti-ice valve (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-51-000-040).
   (2) Remove the clamp (10) and the flex duct (35) that attach to the cooling air duct of the air intake cowl.
   (3) Remove filler plugs of the hoist points from the air intake cowl (30). Keep the plugs for the installation after the air intake cowl is removed.
Subtask 71-11-00-480-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Installation of the Tooling
   (1) Install the PAD - UNIVERSAL ATTACH on the hoist points of the air intake cowl.
   (2) Attach the air intake cowl with the RSE1112 SLING INLET COWL to the universal attach pads.
   (3) Lift the sling until it supports the air intake cowl (30) weight.

D. Disengagement of the Air Intake Cowl
   (1) Remove the bolts (15), the washers (20), and the nuts (25), that attach the air intake cowl (30) to the fan case (19 locations).
   (2) Remove the bolts (15) and washers (40) that attach the air intake cowl (30) to the fan case (4 locations detail B).
   (3) Remove the bolts (15), washers (40) and (45) and nut (25), that attach the air intake cowl (30) to the fan case (1 location, see location 9 on the torque sequence chart).
   (4) Pull the air intake cowl (30) forward to disengage the index pin from the engine flange.

E. Installation of the Air Intake Cowl on the Dolly
   (1) Put the air intake cowl (30) on the RSE1116 DOLLY-AIR INTAKE COWL.
Make sure that the index pin of the air intake cowl does not cause a blockage of the rotating ring on the dolly.
   (2) Attach the air intake cowl (30) to the dolly with the bolts (15), the washers (20), and the nuts (25).

F. Remove the air intake cowl sling and the universal attach pads from the air intake cowl (30).

G. Installation of the Filler Plugs
   (1) Install filler plugs of the hoist points on the air intake cowl (30).
   (2) Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the flex hose, the anti-ice duct and cooling air duct of the ECU.
