Detailed Visual Inspection of Aileron Upper and Lower Skin External Surfaces in Region Between Hinges 3 and 4

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.
   (3) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (4) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the hydraulic systems:
  • on the ground service panels
  • in the cockpit, on the HYD overhead panel 40VU.
   (5) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) on the CAPT and F/O side sticks to tell persons not to operate the ailerons.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable aileron between hinge nos 3 and 4, zone 590 (690).
   (2) Make sure that these aircraft hydraulic systems are depressurized:

A. Preparation for Inspection
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean:
  • the upper and lower skins of the aileron between hinge nos 3 and 4.

B. Detailed Visual Inspection of Aileron Upper and Lower Skin External Surfaces in Region Between Hinges 3 and 4
   (1) Examine the upper and lower skins between hinge nos 3 and 4. Make sure that:
  • there is no damage
  • there is no delamination
  • there are no cracks
  • the surface protection is in the correct condition.
NOTE: If necessary, refer to the SRM 576000 for the correct repair procedure.

   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the safety barriers.
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
