A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the flaps are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
   (2) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.

   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable flap track 2, 3 or 4, zone 531(631), 532(632) or 533(633).

A. Preparation of the Aircraft for Flight After Damage to the Flap-Track Fairing Seals
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) To cut the damaged movable fairing seals:
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the adjacent structure when you remove loose or damaged seal.
     (a) Cut and remove loose or damaged pieces of the seal.
NOTE: No more than half the seal length on each fairing can be missing.
     (b) Make sure there is no loose seal on the aircraft.
     (c) Make a note in the aircraft log that the loose or damaged pieces of the seal has been removed.
   (2) To repair damage to the fixed fairing seals:
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the adjacent structure when you remove loose or damaged seal.
     (a) Cut and remove the loose or damaged pieces of the seal.
     (b) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the area around the removed seal.
     (c) Apply the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) to the area where the damaged seal has been removed.
     (d) Apply the tape between the fairing and the bottom wing skin. Make sure that it gives the same seal effect as the initial seal.
     (e) Make the tape smooth from the center to the edges to remove air bubbles and push the edges down tightly.
NOTE: When you cut the tape, make sure there are no cuts or overlaps in the direction of flight.
     (f) Make a note in the aircraft log that the seal has been temporarily repaired.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the safety barriers.
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
