  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TEMPORARY PROTECTION SYSTEM (TPS) ON THE INSPECTION AREA. IF YOU APPLY TPS ON THE INSPECTION AREA, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Fully extend the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the flap/slat control lever.

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable wing trailing edge at the outboard flap, inboard rib, zone 587 (687).
   (2) Remove the flap kink-seals (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-000-002).
   (3) Remove and discard the inspection hole covers.

E. Preparation for Inspection
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do the inspection of the area.
   (2) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the inspection area.
   (3) Make sure that there is no TPS layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 57-53-00-210-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Detailed Inspection of the Outboard Flap Inboard Rib, Forward Section Including Roller, Internal and External, LH/RH
   (1) Examine the external surface of the outboard flap at the inboard-rib forward-section. Make sure that:
  • there is no corrosion
  • there are no cracks
  • there are no scores or damage to the roller
  • there is not too much play of the roller.
NOTE: If the AXIAL PLAY "X" or the RADIAL PLAY "Y" is more than 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.), do a check of the liner for damage and wear.
   (2) Examine, as far as possible, the internal surface of the outboard flap at the inboard-rib forward section and the roller. Make sure that:
  • there is no corrosion
  • there are no cracks
  • there are no dents or other damage.
NOTE: If necessary, SRM 575300 for the correct repair procedure.
   (3) Examine the external surface of the roller. Make sure that:
F Check for Wear at the Roller ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
  • wear "B" at the center of the roller is no more than 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)
  • wear "A" at the center of the roller is no more than 15 mm (0.5906 in.)
  • wear "C" in the remaining areas of the roller is no more than 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Use Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) cut to the correct dimensions, to make the inspection covers.
   (2) Install the inspection covers.
   (3) Install the flap kink seals (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-400-006).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

   (2) Fully retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

D. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the access platform(s).
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the safety barriers.
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
