Installation of the Overwing Panel


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.

   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) is in position below the applicable zone 571(671).
4. Procedure
Subtask 57-51-42-110-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
F Overwing Panel ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area as follows:
     (a) Use a SPATULA - PLASTIC and a clean LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to remove any sealant from:
  • the overwing panel (1)
  • the joint strip (27).
     (b) Use a clean LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the fittings of the wing structure (18).
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
   (4) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) to the interface of joint strip (27) and the overwing panel (1).

B. Installation of the Overwing Panel
F Overwing Panel ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Put the overwing panel (1) in position.
   (2) Carefully install the overwing panel (1) in the correct position under the joint strip (27).
   (3) Support the overwing panel (1).
   (4) Install the nut strip (26) and screws (28).
   (5) Put the rods (4) in position.
   (6) If necessary, adjust the rods (4) length:
     (a) Loosen the nuts (3) and adjust the length and the position of the rod ends (2) as necessary.
     (b) Tighten the nuts (3).
   (7) Install the bolts (9) and the washers (8).
   (8) Install the bushings (7) and the nuts (6).
   (9) TORQUE the nuts (6) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in ) T.
   (10) Install new cotter pins (5).
   (11) Install the bolts (20) and the bushings (19).
   (12) Install the washers (17) and the nuts (16).
   (13) TORQUE the nuts (16) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in )
T.
   (14) Connect the link assembly (15) on the overwing panel (1):
     (a) Install the bolts (14) and the bushings (13).
     (b) Install the washers (12) and the nuts (11).
     (c) TORQUE the nuts (11) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in )
T.
     (d) Install new cotter pins (10).
   (15) Install the bolts (21) and the washers (22).
   (16) Install the bushings (23), the washers (24) and the nuts (25).
   (17) TORQUE the nuts (25) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in )
T.
   (18) Attach the electrical bonding leads (30) with the bolts (29) and the nuts (31) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

C. Preparation for the Installation
F Overwing Panel ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area as follows:
     (a) Use the SPATULA - PLASTIC and the clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to remove the sealant from:
  • The overwing panel (1)
  • The joint strip (2).
     (b) Use the clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the fittings of the wing structure (19).
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (4) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) on the mating surface of the joint strip (2) and the overwing panel (1).
Subtask 57-51-42-420-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Installation of the Overwing Panel
F Overwing Panel ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Put the overwing panel (1) in position.
   (2) Carefully install the overwing panel (1) in the correct position below the joint strip (2).
   (3) Hold the overwing panel (1).
   (4) Install the nut strip (4) and the screws (3).
   (5) Put the rods (24) in position on the overwing panel (1).
   (6) If necessary, adjust the length of the rods (24):
     (a) Loosen the nuts (23) and adjust the length and the position of the rod ends (22) as necessary.
     (b) Tighten the nuts (23).
   (7) Install the washers (21) and the bolts (20).
   (8) Install the bushings (27) and the nuts (26).
   (9) TORQUE the nuts (26) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in ) T.
   (10) Install the new
AIPC 57-51-05-67-060 COTTER PINS (25) or the new AIPC 57-51-85-67-090 PIN (25).
   (11) Install the bushing (15) and the bolt (14).
   (12) Install the washer (18) and the nut (17).
   (13) TORQUE the nut (17) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in )
T.
   (14) Install the new
AIPC 57-51-85-67-165 COTTER PIN (16) or the new AIPC 57-51-05-36-030 PIN (16).
   (15) Connect the link assembly (9) to the overwing panel (1):
     (a) Install the bushings (13) and the bolts (8).
     (b) Install the washers (12) and the nuts (11).
     (c) TORQUE the nuts (11) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in )
T.
     (d) Install the new
AIPC 57-51-05-67-180 COTTER PINS (10) or the new AIPC 57-51-85-67-210 COTTER PINS (10).
   (16) Install the washers (28) and the bolts (29).
   (17) Install the bushings (30), the washers (33) and the nuts (31).
   (18) TORQUE the nuts (31) to between 5 and 4.75 m.N (44.25 and 42.04 lbf.in )
T.
   (19) Install the new
AIPC 57-51-85-67-165 COTTER PINS (32) or the new AIPC 57-51-05-36-030 PIN (32).
   (20) Attach the electrical bonding leads (6) with the bolts (7) and the nuts (5) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
5. Close-up
Subtask 57-51-42-942-051-A
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the shroud box (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-15-400-001).
   (3) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
