A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put WARNING NOTICE(S)S in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Fully extend the slats (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the flap/slat control lever.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) below the applicable wing leading edge at slat 3, zone 513 (613).

4. Procedure
Subtask 57-44-11-110-050-A
A. Cleaning and Preparation of Slat 3 Surfaces
   (1) Cleaning
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
     (a) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the grease from the slat surface.
  • Apply the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to the cloth not the cloth to the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . This will prevent the transfer of contamination.
  • Carefully clean a small area at a time and remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry. Use a new Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) frequently to make sure that the dirt is not put back on the surface.
  • If necessary, use a brush to clean out the holes and edges.
     (b) Clean the slat surface again, where there is contamination remaining.
     (c) When the area is clean, flush with clean water.
     (d) Carefully dry the area with a new, dry Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (2) Preparation for painting
     (a) If the finish paint or primer layers are damaged, do a repair (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-001).
     (b) If necessary, carefully smooth the surface to be painted with a fine-grade PAD - ABRASIVE and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . Make sure that the primer layer does not show.
     (c) Remove the abrasive grit and use a new Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the surface. Clean off the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry. Make sure you do not touch the surface with your hand.

B. painting
   (1) Apply Polyurethane Coating-- Abrasion Resistant Structure (Material No.04PAD2) with a brush to the prepared area on the slat lower trailing edge.
   (2) Apply three layers of Polyurethane Coating-- Abrasion Resistant Structure (Material No.04PAD2) , each layer must be 0.05 mm (0.002 in.) thick.

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Remove the access platform.
   (4) Remove the safety barriers.
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
