(1) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
(2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
(3) Make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is installed on the slat/flap control lever.

C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable slat 1, zone 511(611).
(2) Remove the No. 1 slat (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-63-000-001).

4. Procedure
Subtask 57-42-21-020-050-A

A. Removal of the Spherical Bearings of the No. 1 Slat
(1) Removal of the spherical bearing (4) at the position B
(a) Disengage the tab washer (3) from the nut (2).
(b) Remove and discard the nut (2) and the tab washer (3).
(c) Remove and discard the spherical bearing (4).
(2) Removal of the spherical bearing (7) at the position D
(a) Disengage the tab washer (6) from the nut (5).
(b) Remove and discard the nut (5) and the tab washer (6).
(c) Remove and discard the spherical bearing (7).
(3) Removal of the spherical bearing (1) at the positions E and F
(a) Disengage the tab washer (11) from the nut (9).
(b) Remove and discard the nut (9) and the tab washer (11).
(c) Remove and discard the spherical bearing (1).
(4) Removal of the spherical bearing (12) at the positions E and F
(a) Disengage the tab washer (10) from the nut (8).
(b) Remove and discard the nut (8) and the tab washer (10).
(c) Remove and discard the sperical bearing (12).
