A. Polishing of the Sharklet Glazing-Assembly Lens
   (1) Preparation and repair procedure:
     (a) Make sure that you applied protection on the serviceable areas of the glazing panel.
     (b) Use water (with Liquid Soap-- - - (Material No.08GAA1) if applicable) to keep the sharklet glazing assembly-lens cool.
     (c) Put the abrasive paper on a foam block.
     (d) Make sure that the foam block is perpendicular to the work surface for each application.
     (e) Make sure that you move the foam block in a linear direction.
     (f) Clean the surface before you use the subsequent smoother grades of the abrasive paper.
   (2) Use the PAPER - ABRASIVE (GRADE 320) on the damaged area to remove all the damage.
   (3) Flush the surface with clean water and dry it with the clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to remove all the unwanted material.
   (4) Use the PAPER - ABRASIVE (GRADE 400) and make sure that there is an overlap of the defective area.
   (5) Do the step (3) again to remove the remaining scores.
NOTE: For the steps that follow, the POLISHING KIT - MICRO-MESH is necessary.
   (6) Gradually remove the abrasive scores until the sharklet glazing-assembly lens is polished and serviceable.
   (7) Use micro-mesh cloths with these grades in this sequence, on the same surface, to make the sharklet glazing-assembly lens smooth:
  • 1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000 and 6000.
   (8) Flush the surface with clean water and dry it with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to fully remove the unwanted material between applications.
NOTE: The minimum thickness of the polished area on the navigation light is 2.90 mm (0.1142 in.) and on the strobe light is 3.0 mm (0.1181 in.).
   (9) Measure the thickness of the lens ( NTM 572908).
   (10) Polish the repaired area as follows:
     (a) Use the micro-mesh cotton cloth wipe to apply a sufficient quantity of micro-gloss.
     (b) Polish the repaired area until the micro-gloss is removed.
     (c) If necessary, add clean water to make the micro-gloss serviceable for a longer period.
NOTE: In warm temperatures, it is recommended to polish the lens in small areas.
     (d) Continue to polish the lens with micro-gloss until it looks transparent.
   (11) Flush the lens surface with water and dry it with the clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (12) If you cannot get a satisfactory repair, replace the glazing panel.
