Subtask 57-27-12-941-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that you obeyed the fuel safety procedures when you do work in the fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
   (2) Make sure that the safety barriers are in position.
   (3) Make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is correctly installed on the slats and flaps control lever.
   (4) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) (is) are in position in the cockpit, on the center pedestal, to tell persons not to operate the slats and flaps control lever.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the wing fuel tank, at zone 540(640).
   (2) Make sure that the access panel is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001):
  • For the left wing: 540AB
  • For the right wing: 640AB.

4. Procedure
Subtask 57-27-12-560-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation of a Replacement Component
   (1) Clean the interfaces of the hinges (18) and the surge door (17) with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (2) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) :
  • On the interfaces of the hinges (18) and the surge door (17)
  • Below the heads and on the plain part of the bolts (15).
   (3) Install the hinges (18), the bolts (15) and the nuts (19) on the surge door (17).
   (4) Tighten the nuts (19).
   (5) Clean the surfaces that follow with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) :
  • The heads of the bolts (15) and the area around them
  • The nuts (19) and the threaded ends of the bolts (15).
   (6) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) on:
  • The heads of the bolts (15)
  • The nuts (19) and the threaded ends of the bolts (15).

B. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (4) Make sure that the seal (23) is in good condition.
   (5) If the seal (23) is not in good condition, replace it as follows:
     (a) Remove the seal (23) with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
     (b) Clean the area with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (c) Apply the Contact Adhesive-Rubber & Plastic Bonding Nitrile base - (Material No.05JBB9) on the mating surfaces of the seal (23) and the surge door (17).
     (d) Install the new AIPC 57-27-12-01-010 SEAL (23).
       1 Make sure that the textured side of the seal (23) is on the flat side of the surge door (17).
Subtask 57-27-12-420-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.
08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (4) Make sure that the seal (23) is in good condition.
   (5) If the seal (23) is not in good condition, replace it as follows:
     (a) Remove the seal (23) with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
     (b) Clean the area with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (c) Apply the Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 1 (Material No.05EML9) on the mating surfaces of the seal (23) and the surge door (17).
     (d) Install the new AIPC 57-27-12-01-010 SEAL (23).
       1 Make sure that the seal (23) is on the flat side of the surge door (17).

C. Installation of the Rib 2 Surge Door 540AZ(640AZ) or 540BZ(640BZ)
   (1) If you removed the springs (11) from the brackets (12), install them as follows:
     (a) Install the sleeves (16), the springs (11), the bobbins (20), the washers (21), the bolts (22), the washers (14) and the nuts (13).
     (b) Tighten the nuts (13).
   (2) Install the surge door (17) as follows:
     (a) Put the surge door (17) in position on the brackets (3).
     (b) Install the washers (2), the pins (4) and the nuts (1) on the brackets (3).
     (c) Tighten the nuts (1).
     (d) Make sure that the surge door (17) moves freely on the pins (4) before the installation of the springs (11).
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE SPRING. THE TENSION IN THE SPRING CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
     (e) Install the springs (11) on the hinges (18) as follows:
       1 Install the sleeves (8), the springs (11), the bobbins (7), the washers (6), the bolts (5), the washers (9) and the nuts (10).
       2 Tighten the nuts (10).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the slats and flaps control lever.
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
