DETAILED INSPECTION OF OUTER WING, FRONT SPAR AFT FACE, BETWEEN RIB 1 AND RIB 8, EXCLUDING THE AREA INSIDE THE DRY BAY
NOTE: The effectivity of this task is "ALL". To know if this task is applicable to your aircraft, refer to the MPD task applicability.
NOTE: If applicable, this procedure and AMM Task 57-20-00-220-008 can be done at the same time. The inspection of the dry bay area can be done through the front-spar access panels (Ref. TASK 57-20-00-220-008).

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Obey safety procedures when you do work in the fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the slats and flaps control lever.
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the slats and flaps control lever.
(4) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
Subtask 57-20-00-860-061-A (1) Obey safety procedures when you do work in the fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the slats and flaps control lever.
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the slats and flaps control lever.
(4) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the wing fuel tank, at zone 540(640).
(2) Remove the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001):
(3) Get access to the inboard of the rib 2 as follows:
(a) For the left wing:
Open the surge door 540AZ and install the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
(b) For the right wing:
Open the surge door 640AZ and install the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
Subtask 57-20-00-010-053-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the wing fuel tank, at zone 540(640).
(2) Remove the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001):
(3) Get access to the inboard of the rib 2 as follows:
(a) For the left wing:
Open the surge door 540AZ and install the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
(b) For the right wing:
Open the surge door 640AZ and install the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the wing fuel tank, at zone 540(640).
(2) Remove the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001):
(3) Remove the applicable rib 2 access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002):
Subtask 57-20-00-110-054-A (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the wing fuel tank, at zone 540(640).
(2) Remove the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001):
(3) Remove the applicable rib 2 access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002):
D. Preparation of the Inspection Area
(1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
(2) If the inspection area is not sufficiently clean, clean it with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(3) Make sure that there is no TPS layer.
(4) If there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
(2) If the inspection area is not sufficiently clean, clean it with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(3) Make sure that there is no TPS layer.
(4) If there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
Subtask 57-20-00-210-053-A
A. Inspection
(1) Examine the applicable inspection area with the LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF and the MIRROR - INSPECTION.
(2) Do a detailed inspection of the front-spar aft face, between rib 1 and rib 8 (does not include the inner area of the dry bay) for damage or discontinuities. Do this at the outer wing.
(3) Make sure that there is no:
(a) Corrosion:
If you find corrosion, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for the corrosion types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection.
(b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for the damage types, classification and corrective action.
5. Close-up(1) Examine the applicable inspection area with the LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF and the MIRROR - INSPECTION.
(2) Do a detailed inspection of the front-spar aft face, between rib 1 and rib 8 (does not include the inner area of the dry bay) for damage or discontinuities. Do this at the outer wing.
(3) Make sure that there is no:
(a) Corrosion:
If you find corrosion, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for the corrosion types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection.
(b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for the damage types, classification and corrective action.

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close access to the inboard of the rib 2 as follows:
(a) For the left wing:
Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close the surge door 540AZ.
(b) For the right wing:
Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close the surge door 640AZ.
(3) Install the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001):
Subtask 57-20-00-410-053-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close access to the inboard of the rib 2 as follows:
(a) For the left wing:
Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close the surge door 540AZ.
(b) For the right wing:
Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close the surge door 640AZ.
(3) Install the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001):

(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the applicable rib 2 access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002):
