C. Preparation for the Installation
   (1) Clean the windshield housing and the retainers with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Apply Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) with the BRUSH - NON METALLIC on the windshield-panel mounting surfaces, the framework and the retainers.
   (3) Make sure that the fastener holes at the upper horizontal frame are correctly filled with sealant:
     (a) If you use a sealant different from the remaining sealant, clean the fastener countersinks with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to remove the remaining sealant.
     (b) If the fastener holes are not correctly filled, apply Low density compound-- Low temperature curing Legacy 2 (Material No.13GAB8) to make the upper horizontal frame flat in the seal contact area. This will prevent pressure leaks.
NOTE: You can use RESIN EC3524 B/A as an alternative to the low-density compound. The sealant-kit manufacturer's instructions give the sealant cure time and the mixing ratio.
4. Procedure
Subtask 56-11-11-420-057-A
A. Installation of the Windshield Panel
CAUTION: DO NOT USE A SUCTION CUP TO HOLD THE INNER SURFACE OF THE WINDSHIELD PANEL IF THE PANEL HAS A SOFT (SELF-HEALING) LINER (SUPPLIER SPS). THE SUCTION CUP WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SOFT LINER. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE SOFT LINER. THE SOFT LINER IS A PART OF THE WINDSHIELD PANEL.
CAUTION: REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD PANELS FROM THEIR CONTAINER ONLY WHERE AND WHEN YOU INSTALL THEM. KEEP THE PROTECTIVE FILM ON THE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SURFACES OF THE WINDSHIELD:
  • WHEN YOU INSTALL THE PANELS
  • WHEN YOU USE THE CENTERING TOOL.
   (1) Put the windshield panel (14) in position in its housing with the vacuum handles (55).
NOTE: Two persons are necessary to install the windshield panel (14):
  • One person out of the aircraft to hold the windshield panel (14)
  • One person in the aircraft with one arm through the sliding window and one hand on the inner face of the windshield panel (14) (to put the windshield panel (14) in the frame).
   (2) Put the suction cups (50) and (54) of the 98F56103000000 R I FRONT WINDOW TOOL in position on the upper part of the windshield panel (14) with the pins (52).
   (3) Operate the suction cups (50) and (54) of the 98F56103000000 R I FRONT WINDOW TOOL.
   (4) Align the windshield panel (14) with the knurled screws (51) and the knurled nut (53). Make sure that the windshield panel (14) is correctly aligned.
   (5) Remove the 98F56103000000 R I FRONT WINDOW TOOL.
Subtask 56-11-11-914-054-A
B. Sealant Application
   (1) The primers related to the sealants help to get a better bond of the sealants. These primers are mandatory and it is necessary to apply them before the related sealants.
   (2) Apply a bead of Silicone Sealant-Windshield Two parts Quick Curing - (Material No.06BEC1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) on:
  • The intersection area of the frame structure and the lower retainer
  • The intersection area of the frame structure and the upper retainer
  • The intersection area of the frame structure and the center retainer.
NOTE: You can use PR1436G, DAPCO 72, PR1826B or PR1828B as an alternative to the low-density sealant. The sealant-kit manufacturer's instructions give the sealant cure time and the mixing ratio.
   (3) Apply a bead of Silicone Sealant-Windshield Two parts Quick Curing - (Material No.06BEC1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) on:
  • The internal side of the lower retainer (12) and the upper retainer (31), at each extremity
  • The internal side of the center retainer (18), at the edges which touch the upper retainer (31) and the lower retainer (12).
   (4) If there is not sufficient time for the sealant to cure (before the aircraft takes off), do the procedure that follows:
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU APPLY THE TAPE, MAKE SURE THAT THE SEALANT IS NOT TACKY. IF IT IS TACKY, THE TAPE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEALANT.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU APPLY THE TAPE, MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO BUBBLES. THIS WILL HELP TO PREVENT THE REMOVAL OF THE TAPE DURING FLIGHT.
     (a) Put a strip of Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) on the intersection areas.
     (b) Do a visual check of the intersection areas after each flight.
     (c) Remove the strip of Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) after the sealant cure time.
NOTE: During the flight, the temperature is less than 10 deg. C and the sealants do not dry. The flight hours are not included in the sealant cure time.
   (5) If there is not sufficient time for the sealant to cure (before the aircraft takes off) and if you have the RCEWSCPA320 A320 WINDSHIELD RAPID CURING SYSTEM, do this procedure:
NOTE: The RCEWSCPA320 A320 WINDSHIELD RAPID CURING SYSTEM contains the Windshield Rapid Curing System (WRCS) control panel and emitters.
     (a) Installation of the RCEWSCPA320 A320 WINDSHIELD RAPID CURING SYSTEM on the aircraft:
1 Install the WRCS control panel on the aircraft.
2 Connect the vacuum supply tube to the WRCS control panel.
3 Connect the three heating element wires to the WRCS control panel.
4 Connect the temperature probes to the emitters. Make sure that the temperature probes are as near as possible to the sealant on the windshield.
5 Energize the WRCS control panel.
6 Make sure that there is suction and a vacuum at the suction cups and the temperature probes.
7 On the WRCS control panel, select the cycle type in relation to the sealant type.
     (b) Removal of the RCEWSCPA320 A320 WINDSHIELD RAPID CURING SYSTEM from the aircraft:
1 De-energize the WRCS control panel.
2 Disconnect the vacuum supply tube from the WRCS control panel.
3 Disconnect the three heating element wires from the WRCS control panel.
4 Disconnect the temperature probes from the emitters.
5 Remove the WRCS control panel from the aircraft.
