3. Job Set-up

A. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position at zone 220.
   (2) Make sure that forward passenger/crew door 831 or 841 is open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-010-001).

B. Preparation for the Installation
   (1) Remove the unwanted sealant from the fuselage structure and the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
   (2) Clean the mating surfaces of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates and the fuselage structure with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Make sure that the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates are in the correct condition and are not damaged.
   (4) If necessary, replace the damaged forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plate(s) (if the structure is in the permitted damage limits).
   (5) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (6) Put the PUMP - VACUUM adjacent to the applicable forward passenger/crew door.
NOTE: We recommend that you use a strong vacuum pump for the attachment of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates.
4. Procedure
Subtask 53-15-15-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Forward Passenger/Crew-Door Scuff-Plates
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Drilling of the new forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9):
NOTE: This procedure is applicable only when you install new forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
     (a) Get the new forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9):
     (b) Put the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) in position on the door sill.
     (c) Drill the attachment holes of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) to the diameter of 4.8 mm (0.1890 in.).
     (d) Remove the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
     (e) Deburr the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (2) Make the top layer of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) rough with the SCOTCHBRITE on an area of:
  • 15 mm (0.5906 in.) width on the edges of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9)
  • 20 mm (0.7874 in.) radius around each fastener hole.
   (3) Clean the rough area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.
08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (4) Apply TAPE - ADHESIVE on the rough area of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (5) Apply a thin layer of Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) on the remaining inner areas of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (6) Make sure that you apply the release agent correctly.
NOTE: The forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) will not become damaged during the subsequent removal procedure.
   (7) Remove the TAPE - ADHESIVE from the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (8) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) :
  • On the mating surface of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9), on the fuselage structure
  • On the rough surface of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (9) Put the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) in position on the fuselage structure.
   (10) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (14) and (15).
   (11) Install the screws (14) and (15).
   (12) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (12).
   (13) Install the washers (11) and the screws (12).
   (14) Tighten the screws (14), (15) and (12).
   (15) Install the screws (16) and the washers (17).
   (16) TORQUE the screws (16) to between 0.37 and 0.28 m.daN (32.74 and 24.78 lbf.in ) T.
   (17) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.
06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (13).
   (18) Install the screws (13).
   (19) Install the nuts (6).
   (20) Tighten the nuts (6).
   (21) Remove the unwanted sealant from around the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (22) Apply approximately 30 mm (1.1811 in.) of Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10) around the edges of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (23) Put a sheet of porous material on the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (24) Attach the porous material with Double Sided Adhesive Tape-- Foam Base - (Material No.05PAC1) to the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (25) Connect the 98A52307557000 VALVE-VACUUM,SCUFF PLATE to the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) .
   (26) Put the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) on the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) and the Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10).
   (27) Make an overlap of 30 mm (1.1811 in.) from the edge of the Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10).
   (28) Connect the PUMP - VACUUM to the 98A52307557000 VALVE-VACUUM,SCUFF PLATE.
   (29) Operate the PUMP - VACUUM and increase the vacuum pressure around the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) to 0 -0 bar or +0.1 bar (0 -0 psi or +1.4504 psi).
   (30) Operate the PUMP - VACUUM during the sealant cure time as necessary (for the sealant cure time, refer to the sealant manufacturer's instructions).
   (31) Disconnect the PUMP - VACUUM.
   (32) Remove the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) .
   (33) Remove the 98A52307557000 VALVE-VACUUM,SCUFF PLATE from the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) .
   (34) Remove the porous material and the Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10).
   (35) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the external joints of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) and around the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (36) Remove the unwanted sealant with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (37) Put the cover strip (8) in position on the fuselage structure.
   (38) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (1), (2), (4) and (7).
   (39) Install the screws (1), (2), (4) and (7).
   (40) Tighten the screws (1), (2), (4) and (7).
Subtask 53-15-15-420-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Forward Passenger/Crew-Door Scuff-Plates
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Drilling of the new forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9):
NOTE: This procedure is applicable only when you install new forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
     (a) Get the new forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9):
     (b) Put the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) in position on the door sill.
     (c) Drill the attachment holes of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) to the diameter of 4.8 mm (0.1890 in.).
     (d) Remove the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
     (e) Deburr the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (2) Make the top layer of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) rough with the SCOTCHBRITE on an area of:
  • 15 mm (0.5906 in.) width on the edges of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9)
  • 20 mm (0.7874 in.) radius around each fastener hole.
   (3) Clean the rough area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.
08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (4) Apply TAPE - ADHESIVE on the rough area of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (5) Apply a thin layer of Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) on the remaining inner areas of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (6) Make sure that you apply the release agent correctly.
NOTE: The forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) will not become damaged during the subsequent removal procedure.
   (7) Remove the TAPE - ADHESIVE from the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (8) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) :
  • On the mating surface of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9), on the fuselage structure
  • On the rough surface of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (9) Put the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) in position on the fuselage structure.
   (10) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (14) and (15).
   (11) Install the screws (14) and (15).
   (12) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (12).
   (13) Install the washers (11) and the screws (12).
   (14) Tighten the screws (14), (15) and (12).
   (15) Install the screws (16) and the washers (17).
   (16) TORQUE the screws (16) to between 0.37 and 0.28 m.daN (32.74 and 24.78 lbf.in ) T.
   (17) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.
06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (13).
   (18) Install the screws (13).
   (19) Install the nuts (6).
   (20) Tighten the nuts (6).
   (21) Remove the unwanted sealant from around the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (22) Apply approximately 30 mm (1.1811 in.) of Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10) around the edges of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (23) Put a sheet of porous material on the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (24) Attach the porous material with Double Sided Adhesive Tape-- Foam Base - (Material No.05PAC1) to the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9).
   (25) Connect the 98A52307557000 VALVE-VACUUM,SCUFF PLATE to the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) .
   (26) Put the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) on the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) and the Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10).
   (27) Make an overlap of 30 mm (1.1811 in.) from the edge of the Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10).
   (28) Connect the PUMP - VACUUM to the 98A52307557000 VALVE-VACUUM,SCUFF PLATE.
   (29) Operate the PUMP - VACUUM and increase the vacuum pressure around the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) to 0 -0 bar or +0.1 bar (0 -0 psi or +1.4504 psi).
   (30) Operate the PUMP - VACUUM during the sealant cure time as necessary (for the sealant cure time, refer to the sealant manufacturer's instructions).
   (31) Disconnect the PUMP - VACUUM.
   (32) Remove the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) .
   (33) Remove the 98A52307557000 VALVE-VACUUM,SCUFF PLATE from the Film-Bagging for Composite Manufacturing - - (Material No.14HCA1) .
   (34) Remove the porous material and the Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) (10).
   (35) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the external joints of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9) and around the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (3), (5) and (9):
     (a) Make sure that dimension A is 20 +0 mm or +0.5 mm (0.7874 +0 in. or +0.0197 in.).
     (b) Make sure that dimension D is 50 +0 mm or +5 mm (1.9685 +0 in. or +0.1969 in.).
   (36) Apply Polyurethane Coating-- Abrasion Resistant Structure (Material No.04PAD2) between the corners of the forward passenger/crew-door scuff-plates (5) and (9) and the seal strikers (18):
     (a) Make sure that a bead of sealant of 0.2 mm (0.01 in.) is permitted because of the tape thickness.
   (37) Remove the unwanted sealant with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (38) Put the cover strip (8) in position on the fuselage structure.
   (39) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (1), (2), (4) and (7).
   (40) Install the screws (1), (2), (4) and (7).
   (41) Tighten the screws (1), (2), (4) and (7).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close forward passenger/crew door 831 or 841 (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-410-001).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
