4. Procedure
Subtask 52-51-21-020-050-F
A. Removal of the Latch Mechanisms
   (1) Remove the two rod covers (4) and (12) as follows:
     (a) Remove the caps (1), (5) and (10) from the screws (2), (6) and (9).
     (b) Remove the screws (2), (6) and (9) with the washers (3), (7) and (8) from the rod covers (4) and (12).
     (c) Disconnect the rod covers (4) and (12) from the cockpit door (13).
     (d) If necessary, remove the mounting block (11) from the cockpit door (13).
   (2) Remove the screws (22) and the washers (21) from the top or lower latch mechanism (28) and hold it.
   (3) Remove the upper or lower connection rod (23) as follows:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the safety devices (24) and the jam nuts (26).
     (b) Loosen the jam nuts (26).
     (c) Turn the top or bottom connection rod (23) until it is free from the eye-ends (27) and (29).
   (4) Remove the center latch mechanism (30) as follows:
     (a) Remove the caps (31) from the screws (32).
     (b) Remove the screws (32) and disconnect the center latch mechanism (30) from the cockpit door (13).
