4. Procedure
Subtask 52-51-12-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (4) If it was necessary to remove the deadbolt assembly:
     (a) Examine the spring (2). Make sure that there is no damage to the inner square end of the spring. If there is damage, replace with a new AIPC 52-51-01-33-290 SPRING (2).
     (b) Examine the screw (1). Make sure that there is no damage or wear to the four-corner shaft of the screw. If there is damage or wear, replace with a new
AIPC 52-51-01-33-280 SCREW (1).
   (5) Apply Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.
03HBD9) to the deadbolt (9).

B. Installation of the Deadbolt Assembly
   (1) If it was not necessary to remove the deadbolt assembly:
     (a) Install the center electrical-release strike 31MQ (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-12-400-001).
   (2) If it was necessary to remove the deadbolt assembly:
     (a) Install the spring (8) in the recess of the deadbolt (9).
     (b) Install the deadbolt (9) with the insert (4), the bush (13) and the screw (12).
     (c) Install the bar lock (11) in the slot of the slider (3).
     (d) Install the pin (10) in the bar lock (11).
     (e) Put the spring (2) in position. Make sure that the outer end of the spring is correctly installed on top of the pin (10).
     (f) Install the screw (1). Make sure that the four-corner shaft of the screw engages with the inner square of the spring (2).
     (g) Install the washer (5), the washer (6) and the nut (7). Do not tighten the screw (1) at this time.

C. Adjustment of the Deadbolt Assembly
NOTE: Only do this procedure if it was necessary to remove the deadbolt assembly.
   (1) Make sure that the deadbolt (9) is released from the bar lock (11). If not, move the bar lock up to release the deadbolt.
   (2) Hold the nut (7) and slowly tighten the screw (1) to preload the spring (2).
NOTE: Be careful when you tighten the screw (1). Make sure that the four-corner shaft of the screw (1) continues to engage with the inner square end of the spring (2).
   (3) Use a GAGE - SPRING on the outer end of the spring (2).
   (4) Preload the spring (2) until you can measure a force of 1.38 daN (3.10 lbf) against the pin (8) when you move the bar lock (11) up.
   (5) Make sure that the clearance X between the end of the spring (2) and the edge of the slot in the strike housing (3) is 1.0 mm (0.04 in.).
   (6) Install the center electrical-release strike 31MQ (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-12-400-001).
