4. Procedure
Subtask 52-51-00-210-051-A
A. Visual Inspection:
   (1) If necessary, use the FLASHLIGHT and/or the MIRROR - INSPECTION to do this procedure.
   (2) Make sure that there are no missing or loose screws and/or washers.
NOTE: This can cause the incorrect operation of the cockpit door (2).
   (3) If the screws are loose or in an incorrect position, fully tighten them.
   (4) Do a visual inspection of the self-adhesive foam tape-strips (4):
     (a) Make sure that the self-adhesive foam tape-strips (4) are in the correct condition.
NOTE: The self-adhesive foam tape-strips (4) are used as door bumpers at four locations: three on the safety angle (3) and one on the cockpit wall panel (1).
NOTE: The safety angle (3) is installed on the lavatory sidewall (5).
     (b) If one self-adhesive foam tape-strip (4) is not in the correct condition or is missing, remove or replace it (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-803).
Subtask 52-51-00-720-053-A
B. Measurement of the Clearances
   (1) If necessary, use the FLASHLIGHT and/or the MIRROR - INSPECTION to do this procedure.
   (2) Measure the clearances around the cockpit door (2) as follows:
     (a) Use the RULER - STEEL to measure clearance L between the edge of the safety angle (3) and the cockpit wall panel (1).
     (b) Make sure that clearance L is between 2 mm (0.0787 in.) and 9 mm (0.3543 in.).
     (c) If clearance L is not in the limits, adjust the cockpit door (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-804).
     (d) Use the RULER - STEEL to measure clearance A between the top of the closed cockpit door (2) and the cockpit wall panel (1).
     (e) Make sure that clearance A is between 4 mm (0.1575 in.) and 5.5 mm (0.2165 in.).
     (f) If clearance A is not in the limits, adjust the cockpit door (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-810).
     (g) Use the GAGE - SET, FEELER to measure clearance C between the cockpit door (2) and the lavatory sidewall (5) at the upper latch mechanism.
     (h) Make sure that clearance C is between 9 mm (0.3543 in.) and 10 mm (0.3937 in.).
     (i) If clearance C is not in the limits, adjust the cockpit door (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-806).
   (3) Use the RULER - STEEL to measure clearance P between each latch tenon (6) and the slot of the related access cover (9).
     (a) Make sure that clearance P is:
  • Between 3 mm (0.1181 in.) to 4 mm (0.1575 in.) with the full body latch-tenon (6)
  • Between 5.5 mm (0.2165 in.) to 7.5 mm (0.2953 in.) with the decreased latch-tenon (6) size.
     (b) If clearance P is not in the limits, adjust the cockpit door (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-807).
   (4) Do an inspection for a non-preload condition on the electrical release strikes (8):
     (a) If the Cockpit Door Locking System (CDLS) is installed:
1 Open, safety and tag this(these) circuit breaker(s):
  • 1MQ.
     (b) Make sure that the cockpit door (2) is closed and the CDLS is de-energized.
     (c) Push the cockpit door (2) in the opposite direction of the flight direction.
     (d) Release the cockpit door (2).
     (e) Make sure that the catch (7) does not turn at all the three latch positions (upper, center and lower).
NOTE: Only the latch tenon (6) of the center latch mechanism can touch the catch (7).
NOTE: The non-turned catch shows that the clearance between the tenons and the latches is correct.
     (f) If the CDLS is installed:
1 Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):
  • 1MQ.
     (g) If one of the catch (7) turns, adjust the electrical release strikes (8) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-808).
   (5) Do a visual inspection for the correct adjustment of the latch tenons (6).
NOTE: The rear face of each latch tenon (6) has three arrow marks.
  • If you can see only the last (inboard) full arrow-mark when the cockpit door (2) is closed, then the adjustment is correct.
  • If you can see more than one full arrow-mark or no arrow mark, then the adjustment is incorrect.
     (a) If necessary, adjust the position of the three latch mechanisms (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-820-809).
   (6) If the adjustment was done, do the operational test of the CDLS (Ref. AMM TASK 52-51-00-710-002).
5. Close-up
Subtask 52-51-00-860-109-A
A. Put the aircraft back to the serviceable condition.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
