Installation of the Balance Mechanism
CAUTION:
IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU OPEN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR, RECORD ON THE WORK CARD ON THE DOOR, THE DATE AND TIME WHEN YOU OPENED IT. IF THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR STAYS OPEN FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE, YOU MUST BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RELATED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE DOOR CAN CLOSE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR TO "CLOSE". THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.

Subtask 52-33-41-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the AFT cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001) is opened.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the AFT cargo-compartment door.
(3) Remove the divider net at FR59 to get access to the Bulk cargo compartment.
(4) Remove the door net from the opening to get access to the closed Bulk cargo-compartment door (referred to as Bulk door).
(5) Remove the lining from the Bulk door and the insulation from the work area (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-000-001).
(6) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the Bulk door.
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the AFT cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001) is opened.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the AFT cargo-compartment door.
(3) Remove the divider net at FR59 to get access to the Bulk cargo compartment.
(4) Remove the door net from the opening to get access to the closed Bulk cargo-compartment door (referred to as Bulk door).
(5) Remove the lining from the Bulk door and the insulation from the work area (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-000-001).
(6) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the Bulk door.
Subtask 52-33-41-910-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
(1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Apply Silicone base Grease-Mechanisms and Seals - - (Material No.03JCA9) to the bolts (5),(16) and the bushes (6),(7),(17) and (18).
Subtask 52-33-41-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

(4) Apply Silicone base Grease-Mechanisms and Seals - - (Material No.03JCA9) to the bolts (5),(16) and the bushes (6),(7),(17) and (18).
B. Installation of the Connection Rod (11)
(1) Install the 98A52307622000 GAGE - MEASURING, BULK CARGO DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM between the forward lever (15) and the stop fitting of the beam 2.
(a) Put the connection rod (11) and the bushes (17) and (18) on the forward lever (15).
(b) Install the washers (14), the bolt (16) and the nut (13).
(c) TORQUE the nut (13) to between 0.35 and 0.30 m.daN (30.97 and 26.55 lbf.in )
.
(d) Safety the nut (13) with the new AIPC 52-33-41-01-190 COTTER PIN (12) or the new AIPC 52-33-84-48-030 COTTER PIN (12).
(3) Tighten the clamping screw (34) and then loosen it two turns to set the tension of the torsion spring (53).
(4) Do not safety the clamping screw (34) at this stage with lockwire.
(5) Open the bulk cargo-compartment door carefully (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
(a) Put the connection rod (11) and the bushes (6) and (7) on the fuselage fitting (4).
(b) If the attachment holes do not align, adjust the length of the connection rod (11) as follows:
1 Cut and remove the lockwire from the jam nuts (8), the safety ring (9) and the turnbuckle (10).
2 Loosen the jam nuts (8) and turn the turnbuckle (10) until the attachment holes align.
3 Make sure that the eye-end and the threaded end of the connection rod (11) are correctly installed in the turnbuckle (10).
4 Tighten the jam nuts (8) to safety the turnbuckle (10).
5 Safety the turnbuckle (10) and the jam nuts (8) with the lockwire, corrosion-resistance steel, dia 0.63 mm on the safety ring (9).
(c) Install the bolt (5), the washers (3) and the castle nut (2).
(d) TORQUE the castle nut (2) to between 0.35 and 0.30 m.daN (30.97 and 26.55 lbf.in )
.
(e) Safety the castle nut (2) with the new AIPC 52-33-04-01-070 COTTER PIN (1) or the new AIPC 52-33-84-01-070 COTTER PIN (1).
(7) Carefully close the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
(8) Remove the adjustment gage from the structure of the bulk cargo-compartment door.
Subtask 52-33-41-420-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the 98A52307622000 GAGE - MEASURING, BULK CARGO DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM between the forward lever (15) and the stop fitting of the beam 2.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(2) Engage the connection rod (11) on the forward lever (15) as follows: (a) Put the connection rod (11) and the bushes (17) and (18) on the forward lever (15).
(b) Install the washers (14), the bolt (16) and the nut (13).
(c) TORQUE the nut (13) to between 0.35 and 0.30 m.daN (30.97 and 26.55 lbf.in )
. (d) Safety the nut (13) with the new AIPC 52-33-41-01-190 COTTER PIN (12) or the new AIPC 52-33-84-48-030 COTTER PIN (12).
(3) Tighten the clamping screw (34) and then loosen it two turns to set the tension of the torsion spring (53).
(4) Do not safety the clamping screw (34) at this stage with lockwire.
(5) Open the bulk cargo-compartment door carefully (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(6) Engage the connection rod (11) on the fuselage fitting (4) as follows: (a) Put the connection rod (11) and the bushes (6) and (7) on the fuselage fitting (4).
(b) If the attachment holes do not align, adjust the length of the connection rod (11) as follows:
1 Cut and remove the lockwire from the jam nuts (8), the safety ring (9) and the turnbuckle (10).
2 Loosen the jam nuts (8) and turn the turnbuckle (10) until the attachment holes align.
3 Make sure that the eye-end and the threaded end of the connection rod (11) are correctly installed in the turnbuckle (10).
4 Tighten the jam nuts (8) to safety the turnbuckle (10).
5 Safety the turnbuckle (10) and the jam nuts (8) with the lockwire, corrosion-resistance steel, dia 0.63 mm on the safety ring (9).
(c) Install the bolt (5), the washers (3) and the castle nut (2).
(d) TORQUE the castle nut (2) to between 0.35 and 0.30 m.daN (30.97 and 26.55 lbf.in )
. (e) Safety the castle nut (2) with the new AIPC 52-33-04-01-070 COTTER PIN (1) or the new AIPC 52-33-84-01-070 COTTER PIN (1).
(7) Carefully close the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
(8) Remove the adjustment gage from the structure of the bulk cargo-compartment door.
C. Installation of the Pre-Load Unit (20)
(1) Connect the clamping sleeve (25) to the aft lever (21) as follows:
(a) Engage the clamping sleeve (25) on the aft lever (21) and make sure that the attachment holes align.
(b) Install the bolt (23), the washers (24) and the nut (26).
(c) Tighten the nut (26) and safety it with a new AIPC 52-33-41-01-080 COTTER PIN (27) or AIPC 52-33-84-48-030 COTTER PIN (27) .
(2) Install the flange bearing (30) on the Bulk door structure as follows:
(a) Put the flange bearing (30) in position and attach it with the bolts (31), the washers (29) and nuts (28).
(b) If removed, install the upper part of the bearing (36) into the flange bearing (30).
(c) Install the clamping screw (34) together with the washer (35) in the clamping sleeve (25) but do not tighten it.
(3) Install the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 3.B).
Subtask 52-33-41-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Connect the clamping sleeve (25) to the aft lever (21) as follows:
(a) Engage the clamping sleeve (25) on the aft lever (21) and make sure that the attachment holes align.
(b) Install the bolt (23), the washers (24) and the nut (26).
(c) Tighten the nut (26) and safety it with a new AIPC 52-33-41-01-080 COTTER PIN (27) or AIPC 52-33-84-48-030 COTTER PIN (27) .
(2) Install the flange bearing (30) on the Bulk door structure as follows:
(a) Put the flange bearing (30) in position and attach it with the bolts (31), the washers (29) and nuts (28).
(b) If removed, install the upper part of the bearing (36) into the flange bearing (30).
(c) Install the clamping screw (34) together with the washer (35) in the clamping sleeve (25) but do not tighten it.
(3) Install the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 3.B).
D. Installation of the Torsion Spring (53)
(1) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficiently (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-006) and safety it with an applicable support device.
(2) Install the cover (52) and the retaining ring (51) into the opening of the serrated sleeve (54).
(3) Put the torsion spring (53) on the splines of the serrated sleeve (61) and move it in the forward direction.
(4) Make sure that the notches of the torsion spring (53) and the serrated sleeves (54) are aligned.
(5) Install the cover (52) and the retaining ring (51) into the opening of the serrated sleeve (61).
(6) Remove the support device and put the Bulk door carefully into the closed position.
(7) Install the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 3.B).
Subtask 52-33-41-420-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficiently (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-006) and safety it with an applicable support device.
(2) Install the cover (52) and the retaining ring (51) into the opening of the serrated sleeve (54).
(3) Put the torsion spring (53) on the splines of the serrated sleeve (61) and move it in the forward direction.
(4) Make sure that the notches of the torsion spring (53) and the serrated sleeves (54) are aligned.
(5) Install the cover (52) and the retaining ring (51) into the opening of the serrated sleeve (61).
(6) Remove the support device and put the Bulk door carefully into the closed position.
(7) Install the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 3.B).
E. Install the Forward and/or Aft Lever(s) (15),(21)
(1) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficiently (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-006) and safety it with an applicable support device.
(2) Carefully move the serrated sleeve (54) or (61) through the flange bearing into the structure of the Bulk door.
(3) During this movement, assemble the washer (60), the forward or aft lever (15),(21) and the spacer (55) to the serrated sleeve (54) or (61).
(4) Install the bolts (59), the washers (58) and the nuts (57) and tighten.
(5) Safety the nuts (57) with new AIPC 52-33-41-02-040 COTTER PIN (56) or AIPC 52-33-84-50-040 COTTER PIN (56).
(6) Install the torsion spring (53) (Ref. Para. 3.D).
(7) Remove the support device and put the Bulk door into the close position.
(8) Install the pre-load unit (20) (Ref. Para. 3.C).
(9) Install the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 3.B).
Subtask 52-33-41-820-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficiently (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-006) and safety it with an applicable support device.
(2) Carefully move the serrated sleeve (54) or (61) through the flange bearing into the structure of the Bulk door.
(3) During this movement, assemble the washer (60), the forward or aft lever (15),(21) and the spacer (55) to the serrated sleeve (54) or (61).
(4) Install the bolts (59), the washers (58) and the nuts (57) and tighten.
(5) Safety the nuts (57) with new AIPC 52-33-41-02-040 COTTER PIN (56) or AIPC 52-33-84-50-040 COTTER PIN (56).
(6) Install the torsion spring (53) (Ref. Para. 3.D).
(7) Remove the support device and put the Bulk door into the close position.
(8) Install the pre-load unit (20) (Ref. Para. 3.C).
(9) Install the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 3.B).
F. Adjustment of the Balance Mechanism
(1) Do a functional check of the Bulk door to examine the balance mechanism.
(2) If the operation is not correct, adjust the pre-tension of the balance mechanism (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-11-820-003).
(3) Safety the clamping screw (34) with lockwire, lockwire, corrosion-resistance steel, dia 0.63 mm to the flange bearing (30).
5. Close-up(1) Do a functional check of the Bulk door to examine the balance mechanism.
(2) If the operation is not correct, adjust the pre-tension of the balance mechanism (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-11-820-003).
(3) Safety the clamping screw (34) with lockwire, lockwire, corrosion-resistance steel, dia 0.63 mm to the flange bearing (30).
Subtask 52-33-41-410-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
(3) Install the insulation packs in the work area and the lining on the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-400-001).
(4) Install the door net at the opening of the bulk cargo-compartment door.
(5) Install the divider net at FR59.
(6) Close the aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
(7) Remove the access platform(s).
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
(3) Install the insulation packs in the work area and the lining on the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-400-001).
(4) Install the door net at the opening of the bulk cargo-compartment door.
(5) Install the divider net at FR59.
(6) Close the aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
(7) Remove the access platform(s).
