Removal of the Balance Mechanism
CAUTION:
IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU OPEN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR, RECORD ON THE WORK CARD ON THE DOOR, THE DATE AND TIME WHEN YOU OPENED IT. IF THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR STAYS OPEN FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE, YOU MUST BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RELATED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE DOOR CAN CLOSE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR TO "CLOSE". THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.

Subtask 52-33-41-010-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Get Access
(1) Open the AFT cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001) to get access to the inner side of the closed Bulk cargo-compartment door (referred to as Bulk cargo door).
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the AFT cargo-compartment door.
(3) Remove the divider net at FR59 to get access to the Bulk cargo compartment.
(4) Remove the door net from the opening of the Bulk cargo compartment to get access to the closed Bulk cargo door.
(5) Remove the lining from the Bulk door and the insulation from the work area (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-000-001).
(6) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the Bulk door.
4. Procedure(1) Open the AFT cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001) to get access to the inner side of the closed Bulk cargo-compartment door (referred to as Bulk cargo door).
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the AFT cargo-compartment door.
(3) Remove the divider net at FR59 to get access to the Bulk cargo compartment.
(4) Remove the door net from the opening of the Bulk cargo compartment to get access to the closed Bulk cargo door.
(5) Remove the lining from the Bulk door and the insulation from the work area (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-000-001).
(6) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the Bulk door.
Subtask 52-33-41-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Connection Rod
(a) Install the 98A52307622000 GAGE - MEASURING, BULK CARGO DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM between the forward lever (15) and the stop fitting of the beam 2.
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (1) from the castle nut (2).
(b) Remove the castle nut (2), the washers (3) and the bolt (5).
(c) Remove the connection rod (11) and the bushes (6) and (7) from the fuselage fitting (4).
(3) Close the bulk cargo-comparment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
(5) Loosen the clamping screw (34) until the torsion spring (53) is fully released.
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12) from the nut (13).
(b) Remove the nut (13), the washers (14) and the bolt (16).
(c) Remove the connection rod (11) and the bushes (17) and (18) from the forward lever (15).
(7) Lift the forward lever (15) and remove the adjustment gage.
(8) Lower the forward lever (15) against the stop fitting of the beam 2.
Subtask 52-33-41-020-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU RELEASE THE TENSION IN THE BALANCE MECHANISM. REMAINING TENSION IN ITS SPRING CAN CAUSE THE FORWARD LEVER TO MOVE SUDDENLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO ADJACENT COMPONENTS.
(1) Release the tension of the balance mechanism as follows: (a) Install the 98A52307622000 GAGE - MEASURING, BULK CARGO DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM between the forward lever (15) and the stop fitting of the beam 2.
NOTE: The permitted tolerance of the adjustment gage thickness is between 17.7 mm (0.6969 in.) and 18.3 mm (0.7205 in.).
(b) Fully open the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-006). WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(2) Disconnect the connection rod (11) from the fuselage fitting (4) as follows: (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (1) from the castle nut (2).
(b) Remove the castle nut (2), the washers (3) and the bolt (5).
(c) Remove the connection rod (11) and the bushes (6) and (7) from the fuselage fitting (4).
(3) Close the bulk cargo-comparment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(4) Cut and remove the lockwire. (5) Loosen the clamping screw (34) until the torsion spring (53) is fully released.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(6) Disengage the connection rod (11) from the forward lever (15) as follows: (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12) from the nut (13).
(b) Remove the nut (13), the washers (14) and the bolt (16).
(c) Remove the connection rod (11) and the bushes (17) and (18) from the forward lever (15).
(7) Lift the forward lever (15) and remove the adjustment gage.
(8) Lower the forward lever (15) against the stop fitting of the beam 2.
B. Removal of the Pre-Load Unit (20)
(1) Remove the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 4.A) to release the torsion spring (53).
(2) Remove the flange bearing (30) from the Bulk door structure as follows:
(b) Remove the clamping screw (34) together with the washer (35) from the clamping sleeve (25).
(c) Remove the nuts (28), the washers (29) and the bolts (31) from the flange brearing (30).
(d) Disconnect the flange bearing (30) carefully from the Bulk door.
(e) If necessary, remove the upper part of bearing (36) from the flange bearing (30).
(3) Disconnect the clamping sleeve (25) from the aft lever (21) as follows:
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (27) from the nut (26).
(b) Remove the nut (26), the washers (24) and the bolt (23).
(c) Disengage the clamping sleeve (25) from the aft lever (21).
Subtask 52-33-41-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 4.A) to release the torsion spring (53).
(2) Remove the flange bearing (30) from the Bulk door structure as follows:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the clamping screw (34) and the flange bearing (30). (b) Remove the clamping screw (34) together with the washer (35) from the clamping sleeve (25).
(c) Remove the nuts (28), the washers (29) and the bolts (31) from the flange brearing (30).
(d) Disconnect the flange bearing (30) carefully from the Bulk door.
(e) If necessary, remove the upper part of bearing (36) from the flange bearing (30).
(3) Disconnect the clamping sleeve (25) from the aft lever (21) as follows:
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (27) from the nut (26).
(b) Remove the nut (26), the washers (24) and the bolt (23).
(c) Disengage the clamping sleeve (25) from the aft lever (21).
C. Removal of the Torsion Spring (53)
(1) Remove the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 4.A) to release the torsion spring (53).
(2) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficiently to remove the torsion spring (53) through the serrated sleeve (61).
(3) Safety the opened Bulk door with an applicable support device.
(4) Remove the retaining rings (51) and the covers (52) from the opening of the serrated sleeves (54),(61).
(5) Move the torsion spring (53) in the aft direction until it comes free from the serrated sleeve (61).
(6) Remove the support device and put the Bulk door carefully into the closed position.
Subtask 52-33-41-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 4.A) to release the torsion spring (53).
(2) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficiently to remove the torsion spring (53) through the serrated sleeve (61).
(3) Safety the opened Bulk door with an applicable support device.
(4) Remove the retaining rings (51) and the covers (52) from the opening of the serrated sleeves (54),(61).
(5) Move the torsion spring (53) in the aft direction until it comes free from the serrated sleeve (61).
(6) Remove the support device and put the Bulk door carefully into the closed position.
D. Removal of the Forward and/or Aft Lever(s) (15),(21)
(1) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficently and safety it with an applicable support device.
(2) Remove the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 4.A) to release the torsion spring (53).
(3) Remove the pre-load unit (20) (Ref. Para. 4.B).
(4) Remove the torsion spring (53) (Ref. Para. 4.C).
(5) Remove and discard the cotter pins (56) from the nuts (57).
(6) Remove the nuts (57), the washers (58) and the bolts (59) to release the levers (15),(21).
(7) Carefully move the serrated sleeve (54) or (61) through the flange bearing until it comes free from the Bulk door.
(8) During this movement, remove the washer (60), the forward or aft lever (15),(21) and the spacer (55) from the serrated sleeve (54) or (61).
(1) Carefully open the Bulk door sufficently and safety it with an applicable support device.
(2) Remove the connection rod (11) (Ref. Para. 4.A) to release the torsion spring (53).
(3) Remove the pre-load unit (20) (Ref. Para. 4.B).
(4) Remove the torsion spring (53) (Ref. Para. 4.C).
(5) Remove and discard the cotter pins (56) from the nuts (57).
(6) Remove the nuts (57), the washers (58) and the bolts (59) to release the levers (15),(21).
(7) Carefully move the serrated sleeve (54) or (61) through the flange bearing until it comes free from the Bulk door.
(8) During this movement, remove the washer (60), the forward or aft lever (15),(21) and the spacer (55) from the serrated sleeve (54) or (61).
Connection Rod and Pre-Load Unit
