Installation of the Door Locking Mechanism


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU OPEN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR, RECORD ON THE WORK CARD ON THE DOOR, THE DATE AND TIME WHEN YOU OPENED IT. IF THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR STAYS OPEN FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE, YOU MUST BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RELATED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE DOOR CAN CLOSE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR TO "CLOSE". THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 52-33-21-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the aft cargo-compartment door is opened (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the aft cargo-compartment door.
   (3) Make sure that the lining of the bulk cargo-compartment door and the insulation packs are removed from the work area (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-000-001).
   (4) If necessary, open the bulk cargo-compartment door sufficiently to get access to the applicable components (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-006).
   (5) Make sure that the fully opened bulk cargo-compartment door is safetied with an applicable DEVICE - HOLD OPEN, DOOR.
   (6) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position in front of the bulk cargo-compartment door.
4. Procedure
Subtask 52-33-21-910-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) to the mating surfaces of the outer flange bearings (154) and the flange bearings (151), (179) and (196).
   (5) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) to the mating surface of the hook arrester (81) and the attachment sheet (114) .
   (6) Apply a layer of Silicone base Grease-Mechanisms and Seals - - (Material No.03JCA9) to the splines of the joint assemblies (163) and the tooth shaft (149).
   (7) Apply Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the shaft of all bolts.

B. Installation of the Door Handle Mechanism
F Door Handle Mechanism ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Assemble the quadrantal ring (134) and the lever assembly (128) on the handle housing (131).
   (2) Install the external door handle (133) to the handle housing (131) as follows:
     (a) Install the spring (132) and the external door handle (133) into the handle housing (131).
     (b) Push the external door handle (133) inboard until its hook engages with the pin of the handle housing (131).
     (c) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-- Soft Film System (Material No.12AGC2) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to the threads of the screws (130).
     (d) Put the stop fitting assembly (129) on the lever assembly (128) and attach it with the screws (130).
     (e) Safety the screws (130) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (3) Install the detention rod (107) and/or the push rod (125) as follows:
     (a) Connect the push rod (125) to the main lever (122) as follows:
NOTE: Make sure that the locking shaft is in the locked position.
       1 Install the lower fork-end of the push rod (125) to the main lever (122).
       2 Install the bolt (123), the washers (124) and the nut (126).
       3 Tighten the nut (126) and safety it with the new cotter pin (127).
     (b) Put the push rod (125) in position at the lever assembly (128) as follows:
NOTE: Make sure that the locking shaft is in the unlocked position.
       1 Turn the lever assembly (128) so that it engages with the push rod (125).
       2 If the attachment holes of these components do not align, adjust the length of the push rod (125) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-11-820-002).
     (c) Install the detention rod (107) as follows:
       1 Put the detention rod (107) and the bushes (108),(106) in position on the structure fitting (104).
       2 Install the bolt (105), the washers (103) and the nut (102).
       3 Tighten the nut (102) and safety it with the new cotter pin (101).
       4 Put the detention rod (107) in position on the lever assembly (128) and install the bolt (117), the washers (118) and the nut (119).
NOTE: If you cannot install the bolt (117), operate the lever assembly (128) as necessary.
       5 Tighten the nut (119) and safety it with the new cotter pin (120).
       6 Remove and discard the lockwire (121) from the detention rod (107) used to set it under compression.
   (4) Install the attachment sheet (114) as follows:
     (a) Put the flange bearing (112) in position on the attachment sheet (114) and attach it with the bolts (113), the washers (115) and the nuts (116).
     (b) Put the attachment sheet (114) in position to the door frame (109) and attach it with the screws (111) and the washers (110).

B. Installation of the Door Handle Mechanism
F Door Handle Mechanism ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Install the external door handle (133) on the handle housing (131) as follows:
     (a) If you removed the wear strip (136), install a new one as follows:
       1 Remove the remaining sealant from the external door handle (133) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBD1) .
       2 Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) on the mating surfaces between the new AIPC 52-33-21-90-097 WEAR STRIP (136) and the external door handle (133).
       3 Install the wear strip (136), the screws (135) and the nuts (137).
       4 Make sure that the heads of the screws (135) are flush with the external door handle (133).
       5 TORQUE the nuts (137) to between 1.13 and 0.9 m.N (10.00 and 7.96 lbf.in )

       6 Remove the unwanted sealant with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBD1) .
     (b) Install the quadrant ring (134) and the lever assembly (128).
     (c) Install the spring (132) and the external door handle (133).
     (d) Push the external door handle (133) inboard until its hook engages in the pin of the handle housing (131).
     (e) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-- Soft Film System (Material No.12AGC2) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the threads of the screws (130).
     (f) Install the stop fitting assembly (129) and the screws (130).
     (g) Tighten the screws (130).
     (h) Safety the screws (130) with the 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (2) Install the rod (125) and the detention rod (107) as follows:
     (a) Install the lower fork end of the rod (125) on the main lever (122).
     (b) Install the washers (124), the bolt (123) and the nut (126).
     (c) Tighten the nut (126) and safety it with the new AIPC 52-33-21-02-030 COTTER PIN (127).
     (d) Put the detention rod (107) and the bushes (108) and (106) in position on the structure fitting (104).
     (e) Install the washers (103), the bolt (105) and the nut (102).
     (f) Tighten the nut (102) and safety it with the new
AIPC 52-33-21-02-030 COTTER PIN (101).
     (g) Align the detention rod (107) and the rod (125) with the lever assembly (128).
     (h) Make sure that the locking shaft is in the locked position.
     (i) If the attachment holes of these components do not align, adjust the length of the rod (125) (
Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-11-820-002).
     (j) Install the washers (118), the bolt (117) and the nut (119).
     (k) If you cannot install the bolt (117), turn the lever assembly (128) as necessary.
     (l) Tighten the nut (119) and safety it with the new AIPC 52-33-21-02-030 COTTER PIN (120).
     (m) Remove and discard the lockwire (121) from the detention rod (107).
   (3) Install the attachment sheet (114) as follows:
     (a) Put the flange bearing (112) in position on the attachment sheet (114).
     (b) Install the bolts (113), the washers (115) and the nuts (116).
     (c) Tighten the nuts (116).
     (d) Put the attachment sheet (114) in position on the door frame (109) and install the washers (110) and the screws (111).
     (e) Tighten the screws (111).

C. Installation of the Locking Shaft
F Locking Shaft ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: Obey the marks on all components which show their correct installation positions.
   (1) Install the locking shaft (183) and the related flange bearings (179) and (196) as follows:
     (a) Install the flange bearing (179) on the door frame (180) and attach it with the bolts (181), the washers (178) and the nuts (177).
     (b) Install the flange bearing (196) on the door frame (195) and attach it with the bolts (193), the washers (194) and the nuts (197).
     (c) Put the locking shaft (183) into the bulk door structure and move it into the flange bearing (179).
     (d) Assemble the main lever (122) on the locking shaft (183).
     (e) Move the locking shaft (183) so that it engages with the flange bearing (196).
   (2) Install the lever (190) on the locking shaft (183) as follows:
     (a) Assemble the lever (190) on the locking shaft (183) so that their splines engage.
     (b) Attach the lever (190) with the bolt (186), the washers (187) and the nut (191).
   (3) Install the main lever (122) on the locking shaft (183) as follows:
     (a) Assemble the main lever (122) on the locking shaft (183) so that their splines engage.
     (b) Attach the main lever (122) with the bolt (174), the washers (175) and the nut (176).
   (4) Install the limit stop (173) on the locking shaft (183) as follows:
     (a) Assemble the limit stop (173) on the locking shaft (183) so that their splines engage.
     (b) Attach the limit stop (173) with the bolt (171), the washers (172) and the nut (182).
   (5) Assemble the joint assembly (163) together with the flange (164) on the locking shaft (183) so that their splines engage.
   (6) Install the barrel locks (141) on the locking shaft (183) as follows:
     (a) Put the flange bearing (151) to the door frame and attach it with the bolts (150) and the nuts (152).
     (b) Install the tooth shaft (149) into the flange bearing (151) so that it engages with the splines of the joint assembly (163).
     (c) Install the flange (164) to the threaded ends of the tooth shaft (149).
     (d) Put the outer flange bearing (154) to the bulk door structure and attach it with the bolts (155) and the nuts (153).
     (e) Install the barrel lock (141) together with the spacers (142),(143),(144) in the tooth shaft (149).
     (f) Install the bolts (148), the washers (146) and (147) and the nuts (145) to connect the barrel lock (141) with the tooth shaft (149).
   (7) Make sure that the locking shaft (183) is in the correct position for the attachment of the subsequent components:
     (a) Connect the spring element (192) to the lever (190) as follows:
       1 Put the spring element (192) to the lever (190) and attach it with the bolt (184), the washers (185) and the nut (188).
       2 Tighten the nut (188) and safety it with the new cotter pin (189).
     (b) Connect the spring element (125) to the main lever (122) as follows:
       1 Put the spring element (125) to the main lever (122) and attach it with the bolt(123), the washers (124) and the nut (126).
       2 Tighten the nut (126) and safety it the new cotter pin (127).
   (8) Safety the locking shaft (183) as follows:
     (a) Install the bolts (158), the washers (157) and the nuts (156) to connect the flange (164) with the joint assembly (163).
     (b) Install the bolts (161), the washers (160) and the nuts (162) to attach the locking washer (159) to the joint assembly (163).

D. Installation of the Latch Assembly
F Latch Assembly with Hook Arrester ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Install the hook arrester (224) on the crossbeam (220) as follows:
     (a) If removed, install the roller (222) on the hook arrester (224) and attach it with the bolt (221) and the nut (223).
     (b) Install the hook arrester (224) on the crossbeam (220) and attach it with the bolts (225) and the nuts (226).
   (2) Install the locking hook (209) as follows:
     (a) Put the locking hook (209) in position and move the hook axle (208) into the door fitting (207) so that both parts engages.
     (b) Assemble the hook axle (208) into the door fitting (210).
     (c) Put the hook bracket (206) in position and attach it with the bolts (203), the washer (202) and the nut (201).
     (d) Install the nut (205) on the hook axle and safety it with the new cotter pin (204).
     (e) Connect the spring element (192) to the locking hook (209) as follows:
       1 If removed, install the bushes (213) and (214) into the fork-end of the locking hook (209).
       2 Put the spring element (192) to the locking hook (209) and attach it with the bolt (211), the washers (212) and the nut (215).
       3 Tighten the nut (215) and safety it the new cotter pin (216).
   (3) Connect the spring element (192) to the lever (190) as follows:
     (a) Put the spring element (192) in position to the lever (190) and attach it with the bolt (184), the washers (185) and the nut (188).
     (b) Tighten the nut (188) and safety it with the new cotter pin (189).
5. Close-up
Subtask 52-33-21-820-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do an adjustment of the applicable components to get a satisfactory locking mechanism (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-11-820-002).
Subtask 52-33-21-910-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Protective Treatment
   (1) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) in the corners between all sealed components and the structure and let it dry.
   (2) Apply Coating_- Flexible Structure (Material No.04QAB2) to the sealant and let it dry.
Subtask 52-33-21-410-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Close Access
   (1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (2) Close the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-008).
   (3) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (4) Install the insulation packs in the work area and the lining on the bulk cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-33-13-400-001).
   (5) Close the aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (6) Remove the access platform(s).
