Installation of the X-Stops


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU OPEN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR, RECORD ON THE WORK CARD ON THE DOOR, THE DATE AND TIME WHEN YOU OPENED IT. IF THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR STAYS OPEN FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE, YOU MUST BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RELATED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE DOOR CAN CLOSE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR TO "CLOSE". THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 52-32-31-860-052-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the AFT cargo-compartment door (referred to as cargo door) is opened and safetied with the actuator safety locks (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below the opened cargo door.
   (3) Make sure that the access panel 826AR is removed from the cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-32-14-000-801).
   (4) Make sure that the fairing is removed from the outer skin of the cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-13-000-001).
   (5) Make sure that the necessary lining and insulation is removed from the cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-32-13-000-001).

B. Make sure that this(these) circuit breaker(s) is(are) open, safetied and tagged:

4. Procedure
Subtask 52-32-31-910-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the countersink of the screws (1), (3), (10) and (12).
   (5) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the mating surface of the shims (4) and (13) and the X-stops (2) and (11).

A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

   (4) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the countersink of the screws (1) and (10).
   (5) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the mating surface of the shims (3) and (12) and the X-stops (2) and (11).

B. Installation of the X-Stops
   (1) Put the shims (4) and (13) and the X-stops (2) and (11) on the sides of the cargo door and attach them with the screws (1) and (10).
   (2) Install the screws (3) and (12) with the washers (6) and (15) and the nuts (5) and (14).
   (3) Remove the actuator safety locks and close the AFT cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (4) Measure the clearances between the X-stops of the AFT cargo door and the door frames of the fuselage.
NOTE: The clearance
  • At FR52A must be between 3.5 mm (0.1378 in.) and 4.5 mm (0.1772 in.)
  • At FR56 must be between 0.3 mm (0.0118 in.) and 1.3 mm (0.0512 in.).
   (5) If the clearances are out of the tolerances, add or remove the shim(s) (4) and/or (13) as necessary.

B. Installation of the X-Stops
   (1) Put the shims (4) and (13) and the X-stops (2) and (11) on the sides of the cargo door and attach them with the screws (1) and (10).
   (2) Install the screws (3) and (12) with the washers (6) and (15) and the nuts (5) and (14).
   (3) Remove the actuator safety locks and close the AFT cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (4) Measure the clearances between the X-stops of the AFT cargo door and the door frames of the fuselage.
NOTE: The clearance
  • At FR55A must be between 2.5 mm (0.0984 in.) and 3.5 mm (0.1378 in.)
  • At FR59 must be between 1.6 mm (0.0630 in.) and 2.6 mm (0.1024 in.).
   (5) If the clearances are out of the tolerances, add or remove the shim(s) (4) and/or (13) as necessary.

B. Installation of the X-Stops
   (1) Put the shims (3) and (12) and the X-stops (2) and (11) on the sides of the cargo door. Attach them with the screws (1) and (10).
   (2) Remove the actuator safety locks and close the AFT cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (3) Measure the clearances between the X-stops of the AFT cargo door and the door frames of the fuselage.
NOTE: The clearance
  • At FR52A must be between 3.5 mm (0.1378 in.) and 4.5 mm (0.1772 in.)
  • At FR56 must be between 0.3 mm (0.0118 in.) and 1.3 mm (0.0512 in.).
   (4) If the clearances are out of the tolerances, add or remove the shim(s) (3) and/or (12) as necessary.
Subtask 52-32-31-916-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Protective Treatment
   (1) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) around the shims (4) and (13) and the X-stops (2) and (11).
   (2) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the threaded ends of the screws (3) and (12).

C. Protective Treatment
   (1) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) around the shims (3) and (12) and the X-stops (2) and (11).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the lateral lining and insulation components on the AFT cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-13-400-001).
   (3) Install the fairing on the outer skin of the AFT cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-13-400-001).
   (4) Install the access panel 826AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-32-14-400-801).
   (5) Remove the access platform(s).
