Installation of the Interlock Mechanism
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:
IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU OPEN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR, RECORD ON THE WORK CARD ON THE DOOR, THE DATE AND TIME WHEN YOU OPENED IT. IF THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR STAYS OPEN FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE, YOU MUST BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RELATED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE DOOR CAN CLOSE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR TO "CLOSE". THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the FWD cargo-compartment door (referred to as cargo door) is opened and safetied with the actuator safety locks (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below the opened cargo door.
(3) Make sure that the access panel 825AR is removed from the cargo door.
(4) Make sure that the latching mechanism is in the locked condition.
Subtask 52-31-21-865-066-A (1) Make sure that the FWD cargo-compartment door (referred to as cargo door) is opened and safetied with the actuator safety locks (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below the opened cargo door.
(3) Make sure that the access panel 825AR is removed from the cargo door.
(4) Make sure that the latching mechanism is in the locked condition.
B. Make sure that this(these) circuit breaker(s) is(are) open, safetied and tagged:

Subtask 52-31-21-910-057-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
(1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Apply a layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the sliding surfaces of the bushes (261) and (270).
(5) Apply a layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the pins (271) and (266), to the spring pin (268) and the shaft of the bolts (265) and (267).
Subtask 52-31-21-560-054-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Apply a layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the sliding surfaces of the bushes (261) and (270).
(5) Apply a layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the pins (271) and (266), to the spring pin (268) and the shaft of the bolts (265) and (267).
- Make sure that the threads of the bolts (265) and (267) remain free of grease.
B. Preparation for Replacement Component
(1) Replace the lock plate (274) of the stop (277) as follows:
(a) Bend the lock plate (274) to release the lock nut (275).
(b) Remove the adjusting screw (276) together with the lock nut (275) and the lock plate (274) from the interlock lever (269).
(c) Remove the lock plate (274) from the adjusting screw (276).
(d) Install a new AIPC 52-31-21-36-180 LOCK PLATE (274) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-180 LOCK PLATE (274) on the adjusting screw (276).
(e) Install the adjusting screw (276) together with the lock nut (275) and the new lock plate (274) in the interlock lever (269).
Subtask 52-31-21-420-055-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Replace the lock plate (274) of the stop (277) as follows:
(a) Bend the lock plate (274) to release the lock nut (275).
(b) Remove the adjusting screw (276) together with the lock nut (275) and the lock plate (274) from the interlock lever (269).
(c) Remove the lock plate (274) from the adjusting screw (276).
(d) Install a new AIPC 52-31-21-36-180 LOCK PLATE (274) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-180 LOCK PLATE (274) on the adjusting screw (276).
(e) Install the adjusting screw (276) together with the lock nut (275) and the new lock plate (274) in the interlock lever (269).
C. Installation of the Interlock Mechanism
(1) Install the spring sleeve (272) on the interlock fitting as follows:
(a) Put the spring sleeve (272) in position and attach it with the pin (266), the spacers (264) and the washer (256).
(b) Safety the pin (266) with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-040 COTTER PIN (257) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-040 COTTER PIN (257).
(c) Move the spring (273) above the spring sleeve (272).
(2) Assemble the spring pin (268) into the spring sleeve (272).
(3) Connect the interlock lever (269) with the interlock fitting as follows:
(a) Put the interlock lever (269) and the sleeve (270) in position and attach them with the bolt (267), the washers (255) and the nut (254).
(b) Tighten the nut (254) and safety it with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-260 COTTER PIN (253) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-260 COTTER PIN (253).
(4) Connect the roller lever (263) to the interlock fitting as follows:
(a) Put the roller lever (263) in position and install the bush (261) into the interlock fitting.
(b) Install the bolt (265), the washers (260) and the nut (259) on the interlock fitting.
(c) Tighten the nut (259) and safety it with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-040 COTTER PIN (258) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-040 COTTER PIN (258).
(5) Install the pin (271) and the washer (251).
(6) Safety the pin with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-040 COTTER PIN (252) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-040 COTTER PIN (252).
Subtask 52-31-21-820-056-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the spring sleeve (272) on the interlock fitting as follows:
(a) Put the spring sleeve (272) in position and attach it with the pin (266), the spacers (264) and the washer (256).
(b) Safety the pin (266) with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-040 COTTER PIN (257) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-040 COTTER PIN (257).
(c) Move the spring (273) above the spring sleeve (272).
(2) Assemble the spring pin (268) into the spring sleeve (272).
(3) Connect the interlock lever (269) with the interlock fitting as follows:
(a) Put the interlock lever (269) and the sleeve (270) in position and attach them with the bolt (267), the washers (255) and the nut (254).
(b) Tighten the nut (254) and safety it with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-260 COTTER PIN (253) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-260 COTTER PIN (253).
(4) Connect the roller lever (263) to the interlock fitting as follows:
(a) Put the roller lever (263) in position and install the bush (261) into the interlock fitting.
(b) Install the bolt (265), the washers (260) and the nut (259) on the interlock fitting.
(c) Tighten the nut (259) and safety it with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-040 COTTER PIN (258) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-040 COTTER PIN (258).
(5) Install the pin (271) and the washer (251).
(6) Safety the pin with the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-040 COTTER PIN (252) or AIPC 52-31-82-46-040 COTTER PIN (252).
D. Adjustment Procedure
(1) Adjust the clearance between the stop assy (277) and the interlock cam of the latching shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-11-820-002).
(2) Make sure that the lock nut (275) is tightened and safetied with the new lock plate (274) after the final adjustment.
Subtask 52-31-21-710-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Adjust the clearance between the stop assy (277) and the interlock cam of the latching shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-11-820-002).
(2) Make sure that the lock nut (275) is tightened and safetied with the new lock plate (274) after the final adjustment.
E. Operational Test of the Interlock Mechanism
(1) Make sure that the door handle is in the UNLOCKED position.
(2) Try to move the door handle in the LOCKED position. Make sure that the stop assy (277) causes blockage to the interlock cam of the latching shaft.
(3) Press the roller lever (263) outboards to release the blockage of the latching shaft.
Subtask 52-31-21-910-057-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the door handle is in the UNLOCKED position.
(2) Try to move the door handle in the LOCKED position. Make sure that the stop assy (277) causes blockage to the interlock cam of the latching shaft.
(3) Press the roller lever (263) outboards to release the blockage of the latching shaft.
NOTE: You can push down the door handle to the LOCKED position.
(4) Pull up the door handle handle to the UNLOCKED position. F. Preparation for Installation

(4) Apply a layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) :
Subtask 52-31-21-560-054-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Apply a layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) :
- Around the bush (27)
- To the pin (20)
- To the spring bolts (19) and (28)
- To the shaft of the bolt (25).
G. Preparation for Replacement Component
(1) Replace the lock plate (3) as follows:
(a) Bend the lock plate (3) to release the lock nut (2).
(b) Remove the adjusting screw (1) together with the lock nut (2) and the lock plate (3) from the interlock lever (18).
(c) Remove the lock plate (3) from the adjusting screw (1).
(d) Install the adjusting screw (1) together with the lock nut (2) and the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-400 LOCK PLATE (3) or the new AIPC 52-31-82-46-400 LOCK PLATE (3) in the interlock lever (18).
Subtask 52-31-21-420-055-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Replace the lock plate (3) as follows:
(a) Bend the lock plate (3) to release the lock nut (2).
(b) Remove the adjusting screw (1) together with the lock nut (2) and the lock plate (3) from the interlock lever (18).
(c) Remove the lock plate (3) from the adjusting screw (1).
(d) Install the adjusting screw (1) together with the lock nut (2) and the new AIPC 52-31-21-36-400 LOCK PLATE (3) or the new AIPC 52-31-82-46-400 LOCK PLATE (3) in the interlock lever (18).
H. Installation of the Interlock Mechanism
(1) Put the interlock lever (18) in position and attach it with the spring bolt (19), the tension springs (29) and (4). Safety the spring bolt (19) with the retaining ring (17).
(2) Install the spring bolt (28) and attach it with the tension springs (29) and (4).
(3) Install the washer (5) to the spring bolt (28) and safety the spring bolt (28) with the retaining ring (6).
(4) Install the pin (20) and the washer (16).
(5) Safety the pin (20) with a new AIPC 52-31-21-36-045 COTTER PIN (10) or a new AIPC 52-31-82-46-045 COTTER PIN (10).
(6) Put the bush (27) and the washer (26) in position and install the bolt (25), the washer (7) and the nut (8).
(7) Tighten the nut (8) and safety it with a new AIPC 52-31-21-36-260 COTTER PIN (9) or a new AIPC 52-31-82-46-260 COTTER PIN (9).
Subtask 52-31-21-820-056-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the interlock lever (18) in position and attach it with the spring bolt (19), the tension springs (29) and (4). Safety the spring bolt (19) with the retaining ring (17).
(2) Install the spring bolt (28) and attach it with the tension springs (29) and (4).
(3) Install the washer (5) to the spring bolt (28) and safety the spring bolt (28) with the retaining ring (6).
(4) Install the pin (20) and the washer (16).
(5) Safety the pin (20) with a new AIPC 52-31-21-36-045 COTTER PIN (10) or a new AIPC 52-31-82-46-045 COTTER PIN (10).
(6) Put the bush (27) and the washer (26) in position and install the bolt (25), the washer (7) and the nut (8).
(7) Tighten the nut (8) and safety it with a new AIPC 52-31-21-36-260 COTTER PIN (9) or a new AIPC 52-31-82-46-260 COTTER PIN (9).
I. Adjustment Procedure
(1) Adjust the clearance between the adjusting screw (1) and the interlock cam of the latching shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-11-820-002).
(2) Make sure that the lock nut (2) is tightened and safetied with the new lock plate (3) after the final adjustment.
Subtask 52-31-21-710-051-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Adjust the clearance between the adjusting screw (1) and the interlock cam of the latching shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-11-820-002).
(2) Make sure that the lock nut (2) is tightened and safetied with the new lock plate (3) after the final adjustment.
J. Operational Test of the Interlock Mechanism
(1) Make sure that the door handle is in the UNLOCKED position.
(2) Try to move the door handle to the LOCKED position. Make sure that the adjusting screw (1) causes a blockage to the interlock cam of the locking shaft.
(3) Push the interlock lever (18) outboards to release the blockage of the latching shaft. Make sure that you can push down the door handle to the LOCKED position.
(4) Pull up the door handle to the UNLOCKED position.
5. Close-up(1) Make sure that the door handle is in the UNLOCKED position.
(2) Try to move the door handle to the LOCKED position. Make sure that the adjusting screw (1) causes a blockage to the interlock cam of the locking shaft.
(3) Push the interlock lever (18) outboards to release the blockage of the latching shaft. Make sure that you can push down the door handle to the LOCKED position.
(4) Pull up the door handle to the UNLOCKED position.

B. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Apply Corrosion Preventive Compound_Water Displacing Soft Film - (Material No.12ABC1) or Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Hard Film - (Material No.12ABB1) to all the components of the interlock mechanism and to the adjacent cargo door structure.
(3) Install the access panel 825AR on the cargo door.
(4) Remove the actuator safety locks and close the cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
(5) Remove the access platform(s).
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Apply Corrosion Preventive Compound_Water Displacing Soft Film - (Material No.12ABC1) or Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Hard Film - (Material No.12ABB1) to all the components of the interlock mechanism and to the adjacent cargo door structure.
(3) Install the access panel 825AR on the cargo door.
(4) Remove the actuator safety locks and close the cargo door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
(5) Remove the access platform(s).
