Adjustment of the Vent Door
CAUTION:
IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU OPEN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR, RECORD ON THE WORK CARD ON THE DOOR, THE DATE AND TIME WHEN YOU OPENED IT. IF THE CARGO COMPARTMENT DOOR STAYS OPEN FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE, YOU MUST BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RELATED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE DOOR CAN CLOSE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR TO "CLOSE". THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.

A. Get Access
(1) Open the applicable cargo door and install the actuator safety locks to get access to the internal vent door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position at the cargo door.
Subtask 52-31-11-865-056-A (1) Open the applicable cargo door and install the actuator safety locks to get access to the internal vent door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position at the cargo door.
B. Open, safety and tag this(these) circuit breaker(s):

C. Get Access
(1) Remove the access panel(s) 825AR to get access to the interlock mechanism.
(2) Remove the lining and insulation to get access to the inner side of the cargo door structure (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-13-000-001).
(3) Remove the screws and the washers and disconnect the cover assy from the brackets of the cargo door structure.
4. Procedure(1) Remove the access panel(s) 825AR to get access to the interlock mechanism.
(2) Remove the lining and insulation to get access to the inner side of the cargo door structure (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-13-000-001).
(3) Remove the screws and the washers and disconnect the cover assy from the brackets of the cargo door structure.
Subtask 52-31-11-820-057-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Adjustment of the Skin Offset
(1) Remove the vent door stop from the open vent door as follows:
(a) Release the tabwashers (187) from the jam nuts (186).
(b) Loosen the jam nuts (186) to release the adjustment bolts (185).
(c) Remove the adjustment bolts (185) with the jam nuts (186) and the tabwashers (187) from the hinge arms (188).
(d) Remove and discard the tabwashers (187).
(2) Close the vent door as follows:
(a) Push the roller lever of the interlock mechanism outboard to release the blockage of the locking shaft.
(b) Move the door handle down to the LOCKED position and push it in the recess of the door structure.
(3) Measure skin offset A between the external contour of the vent door and the forward cargo door.
(4) Make sure that skin offset A (which must be out of wind) is between 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) and 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.).
(5) If skin offset A is not correct, adjust the length of the connection rod (181) as follows:
(b) Loosen the jam nuts (183) to release the turnbuckle (184).
(c) Turn the turnbuckle (184) until skin offset A is correctly adjusted.
(d) Tighten the jam nuts (183).
(e) Safety the jam nuts (183) with the14QFB1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy - to the locking devices (182).
(6) Adjust clearance B between the adjustment bolts (185) and the stop bolts (189) as follows:
(a) Pull the locking handle out of the recess and turn it down to the UNLOCKED position to open the vent door.
(b) Install the adjustment bolts (185) together with the jam nuts (186) and the new AIPC 52-32-22-02-240 WASHER (187) in the hinge arms (188).
(c) Make sure that the tabwashers (187) are correctly attached to the hinge arms (188).
(d) Close the vent door again (refer to Para. A.2).
(e) Turn the adjustment bolts (185) until clearance B is between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.6 mm (0.0236 in.).
(f) Tighten the jam nuts (186) correctly.
(g) Safety the jam nuts (186) with the tabwashers (187).
(7) Push the door handle up until it is in the UNLOCKED position.
Subtask 52-31-11-820-057-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the vent door stop from the open vent door as follows:
(a) Release the tabwashers (187) from the jam nuts (186).
(b) Loosen the jam nuts (186) to release the adjustment bolts (185).
(c) Remove the adjustment bolts (185) with the jam nuts (186) and the tabwashers (187) from the hinge arms (188).
(d) Remove and discard the tabwashers (187).
(2) Close the vent door as follows:
(a) Push the roller lever of the interlock mechanism outboard to release the blockage of the locking shaft.
(b) Move the door handle down to the LOCKED position and push it in the recess of the door structure.
(3) Measure skin offset A between the external contour of the vent door and the forward cargo door.
(4) Make sure that skin offset A (which must be out of wind) is between 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) and 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.).
(5) If skin offset A is not correct, adjust the length of the connection rod (181) as follows:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the locking devices (182). (b) Loosen the jam nuts (183) to release the turnbuckle (184).
(c) Turn the turnbuckle (184) until skin offset A is correctly adjusted.
(d) Tighten the jam nuts (183).
(e) Safety the jam nuts (183) with the
(6) Adjust clearance B between the adjustment bolts (185) and the stop bolts (189) as follows:
(a) Pull the locking handle out of the recess and turn it down to the UNLOCKED position to open the vent door.
(b) Install the adjustment bolts (185) together with the jam nuts (186) and the new AIPC 52-32-22-02-240 WASHER (187) in the hinge arms (188).
(c) Make sure that the tabwashers (187) are correctly attached to the hinge arms (188).
(d) Close the vent door again (refer to Para. A.2).
(e) Turn the adjustment bolts (185) until clearance B is between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.6 mm (0.0236 in.).
(f) Tighten the jam nuts (186) correctly.
(g) Safety the jam nuts (186) with the tabwashers (187).
(7) Push the door handle up until it is in the UNLOCKED position.
A. Adjustment of the Skin Offset

(b) Loosen the jam nuts (6) to release the adjustment bolts (5).
(c) Remove the adjustment bolts (5) with the jam nuts (6) and the tab washers (7) from the hinge arms (1).
(d) Remove and discard the tab washers (7).
(2) Close the vent door as follows:
(a) Push the roller lever of the interlock mechanism outboard to release the blockage of the locking shaft.
(b) Move the door handle down to the LOCKED position and push it in the recess of the door structure.
(3) Measure skin offset A between the external contour of the vent door and the forward cargo door.
(4) Make sure that skin offset A (which must be out of wind) is between 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) and 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.).

(b) Loosen the jam nuts (4) to release the turnbuckle (2).

(d) Tighten the jam nuts (4).
(e) Safety the jam nuts (4) with the14QFB1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy - to the locking devices (3).
(6) Adjust clearance B between the adjustment bolts (5) and the stop bolts (8) as follows:
(a) Pull the locking handle out of the recess and turn it down to the UNLOCKED position to open the vent door.
(b) Install the adjustment bolts (5) together with the jam nuts (6) and the new AIPC 52-31-22-12-280 TAB WASHER (7) in the hinge arms (1).
(c) Make sure that the tab washers (7) are correctly attached to the hinge arms (1).
(d) Close the vent door again (refer to Para. A.2).
(e) Turn the adjustment bolts (5) until clearance B is between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.6 mm (0.0236 in.).
(f) Tighten the jam nuts (6) correctly.
(g) Safety the jam nuts (6) with the tab washers (7).
(7) Push the door handle up until it is in the UNLOCKED position.
5. Close-up(1) Remove the vent door stop from the open vent door as follows:
(a) Release the tab washers (7) from the jam nuts (6).
(b) Loosen the jam nuts (6) to release the adjustment bolts (5).
(c) Remove the adjustment bolts (5) with the jam nuts (6) and the tab washers (7) from the hinge arms (1).
(d) Remove and discard the tab washers (7).
(2) Close the vent door as follows:
(a) Push the roller lever of the interlock mechanism outboard to release the blockage of the locking shaft.
(b) Move the door handle down to the LOCKED position and push it in the recess of the door structure.
(3) Measure skin offset A between the external contour of the vent door and the forward cargo door.
(4) Make sure that skin offset A (which must be out of wind) is between 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) and 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.).
(5) If skin offset A is not correct, adjust the length of the connection rod (2) as follows:

(a) Pull the locking handle out of the recess and turn it down to the UNLOCKED position to open the vent door.
(b) Install the adjustment bolts (5) together with the jam nuts (6) and the new AIPC 52-31-22-12-280 TAB WASHER (7) in the hinge arms (1).
(c) Make sure that the tab washers (7) are correctly attached to the hinge arms (1).
(d) Close the vent door again (refer to Para. A.2).
(e) Turn the adjustment bolts (5) until clearance B is between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.6 mm (0.0236 in.).
(f) Tighten the jam nuts (6) correctly.
(g) Safety the jam nuts (6) with the tab washers (7).
(7) Push the door handle up until it is in the UNLOCKED position.
Subtask 52-31-11-410-059-A
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Put the cover assy to the brackets of the cargo door structure and attach it with the related screws and washers (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-22-400-001).
(3) Install the lining and insulation (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-13-400-001).
(4) Install the access panel 825AR.
Subtask 52-31-11-865-057-A (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Put the cover assy to the brackets of the cargo door structure and attach it with the related screws and washers (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-22-400-001).
(3) Install the lining and insulation (Ref. AMM TASK 52-31-13-400-001).
(4) Install the access panel 825AR.
B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

(1) Remove the actuator safety locks and close the FWD and/or AFT cargo door(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
