Removal of the Overwing Emergency-Exit Door
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN HOLD THE COMPONENT BEFORE YOU REMOVE/INSTALL IT. THE COMPONENT IS HEAVY. IF IT FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
NOTE: Two persons are necessary for this procedure.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
(3) Do the special precaution before you work in the offwing escape-slide system (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
(4) On the overhead panel, on the SIGNS section of the control panel 25VU, make sure that:
(6) On Flight Attendant Panel (FAP) 120RH, make sure that the EMER button and its light are off.
(7) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
Subtask 52-22-61-865-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
(3) Do the special precaution before you work in the offwing escape-slide system (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
(4) On the overhead panel, on the SIGNS section of the control panel 25VU, make sure that:
- The EMER EXIT LT switch is in the OFF position.
- The NO PED switch is in the OFF position.
(6) On Flight Attendant Panel (FAP) 120RH, make sure that the EMER button and its light are off.
(7) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.

C. Get Access
(1) Remove the applicable cove light panels (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(2) Remove the adjacent door frame linings (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-805).
(3) Remove the adjacent overhead stowage compartments (Ref. AMM TASK 25-24-41-000-001).
(4) Remove the applicable insulation blankets (Ref. AMM TASK 25-80-00-000-001).
(5) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position near applicable overwing emergency-exit door 833( 843) or 834( 844).
(6) Put on a safety harness:
(b) Put on and attach the HARNESS, SAFETY before you start work in the work area.
(7) Install the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104):
(b) Attach the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104) to the CRANE 50KG (110 LB).
(c) Remove the self-adhesive disks (101) from the hoisting points (103) and discard the self-adhesive disks (101) (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-000-004).
(d) Remove the plugs (102) from the hoisting points (103).
(e) Install the ring bolts (105) together with the protection washer (106) in the hoisting points (103).
(8) Open the applicable overwing emergency-exit door:
(a) Fully open the applicable overwing emergency-exit door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-22-00-010-803) or (Ref. AMM TASK 52-22-00-010-802).
(9) Carefully operate the CRANE 50KG (110 LB):
4. Procedure(1) Remove the applicable cove light panels (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(2) Remove the adjacent door frame linings (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-805).
(3) Remove the adjacent overhead stowage compartments (Ref. AMM TASK 25-24-41-000-001).
(4) Remove the applicable insulation blankets (Ref. AMM TASK 25-80-00-000-001).
(5) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position near applicable overwing emergency-exit door 833( 843) or 834( 844).
(6) Put on a safety harness:
WARNING:
YOU MUST PUT ON AND ATTACH A SAFETY HARNESS BEFORE YOU START WORK:
(a) If you work on the wings, install the individual pad system (Ref. AMM TASK 12-00-00-481-002). - ON THE THS OR IN THE REAR FUSELAGE
- ON TOP OF THE WINGS OR PYLONS.
(b) Put on and attach the HARNESS, SAFETY before you start work in the work area.
(7) Install the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104):
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR AND THE HOISTING DEVICE IS SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR WHEN IT IS FULLY OPEN.
(a) Put the CRANE 50KG (110 LB) in position at the applicable overwing emergency-exit door. (b) Attach the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104) to the CRANE 50KG (110 LB).
(c) Remove the self-adhesive disks (101) from the hoisting points (103) and discard the self-adhesive disks (101) (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-000-004).
(d) Remove the plugs (102) from the hoisting points (103).
(e) Install the ring bolts (105) together with the protection washer (106) in the hoisting points (103).
CAUTION:
YOU MUST TIGHTEN THE RING BOLT BY HAND ONLY. DO NOT APPLY ADDITIONAL TORQUE VALUE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE DOOR STRUCTURE CAN OCCUR.
(f) Tighthen the ring bolts (105). (8) Open the applicable overwing emergency-exit door:
(a) Fully open the applicable overwing emergency-exit door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-22-00-010-803) or (Ref. AMM TASK 52-22-00-010-802).
(9) Carefully operate the CRANE 50KG (110 LB):
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR DOES NOT TOUCH THE HOISTING DEVICE. IF IT DOES, DAMAGE TO THE STRUCTURE OF THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR CAN OCCUR.
(a) Carefully operate the CRANE 50KG (110 LB) until there is tension in the legs of the hoisting sling (104). Subtask 52-22-61-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Overwing Emergency-Exit Door
(1) Disconnect the electrical connector (12):
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector (12).
(b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
(c) Cut and discard the TIE WRAP(S) (13).
(d) Remove the screw (17), the washer (16) and the clamp (15).
(e) Safety the cable (14) with a TIE WRAP(S) to the adjacent overwing emergency-exit door (31) structure.
(2) Disconnect the bonding straps (5):
(a) Remove the bolts (3) and the washers (4).
(b) Disconnect the bonding straps (5).
(3) Disconnect the lift arms (11):
(b) Loosen the nuts (9).
(c) Hold the overwing emergency-exit door (31) in position.
(d) Remove the nuts (9) and the washers (8).
(e) Remove the bolts (1) and the plain bushings (2).
(f) Disconnect the lift arms (11) and remove the washers (7) from the fittings (6).
(g) Safety the lift arms (11) with the TIE WRAP(S) to the adjacent aircraft structure.
(4) Lower the overwing emergency-exit door (31):
1 Do not fully close the overwing emergency-exit door (31).
(5) Remove the center hinge (40):
(a) Remove the sealant from the hinges (37) and (39) with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
(c) Carefully remove the center hinge (40).
(d) Put TAPE - ADHESIVE on the ends of the pin (38) to keep all the components of the center hinge (40) together.
(6) Disconnect the lateral hinges:
(b) If necessary, clean the threads of the forward and aft hinge pins (32):
1 Clean the threads of the forward and aft hinge pins (32) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
2 If necessary, use the VACUUM CLEANER to clean the threads of the forward and aft hinge pins (32).
(c) Remove the hinge pins (32):
2 Tighten the HEXAGONAL BOLT ABS0114-4-10 (41) with your hand.
3 Pull out the forward hinge pin (32) and the hexagonal bolt (41) at the middle of its travel.
a Use a pair of pliers on the bolt, for example the PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG, and pull out the forward hinge pin (32) at the middle of its travel.
b Remove the hexagonal bolt (41) from the forward hinge pin (32).
(8) Use the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104) and the CRANE 50KG (110 LB) to carefully put the overwing emergency-exit door (31) on an applicable fixture.
(1) Disconnect the electrical connector (12):
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector (12).
(b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
(c) Cut and discard the TIE WRAP(S) (13).
(d) Remove the screw (17), the washer (16) and the clamp (15).
(e) Safety the cable (14) with a TIE WRAP(S) to the adjacent overwing emergency-exit door (31) structure.
(2) Disconnect the bonding straps (5):
(a) Remove the bolts (3) and the washers (4).
(b) Disconnect the bonding straps (5).
(3) Disconnect the lift arms (11):
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (10). (b) Loosen the nuts (9).
(c) Hold the overwing emergency-exit door (31) in position.
(d) Remove the nuts (9) and the washers (8).
(e) Remove the bolts (1) and the plain bushings (2).
(f) Disconnect the lift arms (11) and remove the washers (7) from the fittings (6).
(g) Safety the lift arms (11) with the TIE WRAP(S) to the adjacent aircraft structure.
(4) Lower the overwing emergency-exit door (31):
WARNING:
BEFORE YOU LOWER THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR, MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO PERSONS OR OBJECTS IN THE AREA BELOW AND AROUND THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT MOVE THE OVERWING EMERGENCY-EXIT DOOR UP. IF YOU DO, THE HINGES CAN BREAK AND DAMAGE TO THE STRUCTURE CAN OCCUR.
(a) Use the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104) to carefully lower the overwing emergency-exit door (31) adjacent to the closed position. 1 Do not fully close the overwing emergency-exit door (31).
NOTE: The opening of the overwing emergency-exit door (31) must have a bottom clearance of a minimum of 250 mm (9.84 in.).
(b) Carefully operate the CRANE 50KG (110 LB) to make sure that all three slings of the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104) are equally straight. (5) Remove the center hinge (40):
(a) Remove the sealant from the hinges (37) and (39) with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU RECORD THE CORRECT POSITION OF EACH OF THEM. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS.
(b) Hold the center hinge (40) in position and carefully remove the screws (36), (35), (34) and (33). (c) Carefully remove the center hinge (40).
(d) Put TAPE - ADHESIVE on the ends of the pin (38) to keep all the components of the center hinge (40) together.
(6) Disconnect the lateral hinges:
NOTE: Two persons are necessary for this part of the procedure. One person holds the overwing emergency-exit door (31) and the other removes the components.
(a) Hold the overwing emergency-exit door (31) with your hands until the forward and aft hinge pins (32) are removed. (b) If necessary, clean the threads of the forward and aft hinge pins (32):
1 Clean the threads of the forward and aft hinge pins (32) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
2 If necessary, use the VACUUM CLEANER to clean the threads of the forward and aft hinge pins (32).
(c) Remove the hinge pins (32):
NOTE: The correct sequence for this procedure is to remove the forward hinge pin (32) first and then the aft hinge pin (32).
1 Install the HEXAGONAL BOLT ABS0114-4-10 (41) or an equivalent in the forward hinge pin (32). 2 Tighten the HEXAGONAL BOLT ABS0114-4-10 (41) with your hand.
3 Pull out the forward hinge pin (32) and the hexagonal bolt (41) at the middle of its travel.
a Use a pair of pliers on the bolt, for example the PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG, and pull out the forward hinge pin (32) at the middle of its travel.
b Remove the hexagonal bolt (41) from the forward hinge pin (32).
NOTE: It is not possible to fully remove the forward hinge pin (32) with the hexagonal bolt (41) because there is not sufficient clearance.
c Remove the forward hinge pin (32). NOTE: The removal procedures of the forward hinge pin (32) and aft hinge pin (32) are the same.
(7) Move the overwing emergency-exit door (31) away from the fuselage with your hand. (8) Use the 98A52008509000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,DOORS (104) and the CRANE 50KG (110 LB) to carefully put the overwing emergency-exit door (31) on an applicable fixture.
