3. Job Set-up
Subtask 52-21-18-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Remove the applicable emergency exit hatch (referred to as hatch) as required (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
   (2) Remove the door seal (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-18-960-003)
4. Procedure
Subtask 52-21-18-350-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Repair of the Chafe Marks
NOTE: If the chafe marks are in the area where the door seal touches, replace the section (splice repair).
   (1) Prepare the chafe mark with CLOTH-EMERY, FINE.
   (2) Carefully degrease the chafe mark with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-Non structural use - - (Material No.08BPA1) and a lint-free cloth, Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Apply a thin layer of Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) to the chafe mark with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (4) Prevent a dust layer on the treated chafe marks during the Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) dry for a period of 10 to 12 hours.
Subtask 52-21-18-330-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Repair of the Minor Tears and Small Splits
NOTE: A minimum of 24 hours is necessary to do this repair procedure.
NOTE: A repair of tears is only permitted if they are not longer than the half of the seal blade width.
A repair of splits is only permitted if they are not longer than 50.0 mm (1.9685 in.).
In all other conditions, prepare a splice repair of the door seal.
   (1) If less time is available, replace the defective door seal with a new one (Ref. AMM TASK 52-11-18-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 52-11-18-400-001).
   (2) Drill stop holes with a diameter of 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) at the end of the cuts.
   (3) Lightly rub the cut area with the CLOTH-EMERY, FINE.
   (4) Carefully remove the grease from the cut area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (5) Apply a thin layer of Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) on the cut area.
   (6) Push the edges of the cut together and let it dry for some minutes.
   (7) Cut pieces of Laminate Repair Patch-Pax Door Seal - - (Material No.13XJA1) and put them on the cut area ( 10.0 mm (0.3937 in.) larger than the cut).
   (8) Apply a thin layer of Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) on the surface of the cut and make it smooth with the SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (9) Remove the unwanted bonding and adhesive sealant from the seal.
   (10) Let the adhesive sealant dry between 10 and 12 hours.
   (11) Make sure that there is no dust on the cut area.
Subtask 52-21-18-330-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Repair of the Blade and the Bulb
NOTE: A minimum of 24 hours is necessary to do this repair procedure.
NOTE: A repair of the missing blade or bulb is only permitted if:
  • The damage is not longer than 50.0 mm (1.9685 in.).
  • The damage is not larger than one third of the seal width.
  • The damaged area is not in the curved section of the primary seal.
In all other conditions, prepare a splice repair of the door seal.
   (1) If less time is available, replace the defective door seal with a new one (Ref. AMM TASK 52-11-18-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 52-11-18-400-001).
   (2) Lightly rub the cut area with the CLOTH-EMERY, FINE.
   (3) Carefully remove the grease from the cut area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (4) Cut pieces of Laminate Repair Patch-Pax Door Seal - - (Material No.13XJA1) and put them on the cut area (10.0 mm (0.3937 in.) larger than the cut).
   (5) If the cuts have a large depth, cut pieces of Laminate Repair Patch-Pax Door Seal - - (Material No.13XJA1) of a sufficient dimension to put them around the seal.
   (6) Make sure that the missing area is covered on both sides.
   (7) Fill the contour of the missing part with Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) and cover it with the cut piece of tissue.
   (8) Put a layer of Film-Rubber Bonding Polyester Foil - (Material No.14HHB1) on the damaged area.
   (9) Put the seal in a wooden bonding block.
   (10) Compress the seal with the wooden bonding block and the CLAMPS.
   (11) Let Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) dry for 24 hours.
   (12) Remove the wooden bonding block, the bonding polyester-foil rubber-film and the unwanted adhesive sealant with the CLOTH-EMERY, FINE to get a smooth seal surface.
Subtask 52-21-18-330-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Repair of Large Damaged Areas (Splice Repair)
NOTE: A minimum of 24 hours is necessary to do this repair procedure.
   (1) If less time is available, replace the defective door seal with a new one (Ref. AMM TASK 52-11-18-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 52-11-18-400-001).
   (2) Cut the seal from the next inflation hole to remove the damaged section of the seal.
NOTE: The minimum repair length of the section is:
  • For a straight section 200.0 mm (7.8740 in.)
  • For a section with curves 200.0 mm (7.8740 in.) measured from the edge of the corner.
   (3) For the straight section and the section with curves, cut a section of the replacement seal to the same length as the removed section.
   (4) Make sure that the replacement seal has the same quantity of inflation holes as the removed section.
   (5) Lightly rub the cut area with the CLOTH-EMERY, FINE.
   (6) Carefully remove the grease from the cut area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-Non structural use - - (Material No.08BPA1) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (7) Apply a thin layer of Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) or Silicone Adhesive Sealant-Rubber & Plastic Bonding One part - (Material No.06CED1) on the ends of the seal and the replacement section.
   (8) Make sure that the inflation holes of the replacement section are in the correct position:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DOOR SEAL IS INSTALLED IN THE CORRECT POSITION. IF IT IS NOT INSTALLED IN THE CORRECT POSITION, IT WILL NOT INFLATE CORRECTLY DURING FLIGHT.
     (a) Make sure that the inflation holes of the replacement section are in the same position as the inflation holes of the remaining section.
   (9) Push and hold the ends of the replacement section and the seal together and let them dry for some minutes.
   (10) Cut pieces of Laminate Repair Patch-Pax Door Seal - - (Material No.13XJA1) equal to the dimension of the damaged area.
   (11) Apply a layer of Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) or Silicone Adhesive Sealant-Rubber & Plastic Bonding One part - (Material No.06CED1) on the mating surface of the replacement tissue and the damaged area.
   (12) Wind the replacement tissue around the damaged area.
   (13) Apply a layer of Film-Rubber Bonding Polyester Foil - (Material No.14HHB1) on the damaged area.
   (14) Put the seal in the BLOCK 20X10X10 CM (6.5X3X3 IN)-WOODEN.
   (15) Compress the seal with a wooden bonding block and the CLAMPS and let it dry for 24 hours.
   (16) Remove the wooden bonding block and the bonding polyester-foil rubber-film from the damaged area of the seal.
   (17) Lightly rub the damaged area with the CLOTH-EMERY, FINE to get a smooth seal surface.

A. Close Access
   (1) Install the hatch seal (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-18-960-003).
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Install the applicable hatch (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001).
