Adjustment of the Emergency Exit Hatch

TASK 52-21-11-820-001-A
Adjustment of the Emergency Exit Hatch

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LOCK PIN IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED IN THE REGULATOR VALVE ASSEMBLY OF THE INFLATION RESERVOIR. THIS SAFETIES ALL COMPONENTS OF THE INFLATION SYSTEM IN OPERATION AND PREVENTS ACCIDENTAL:
  • DISCHARGE OF THE INFLATION RESERVOIR
  • DEPLOYMENT OF THE ESCAPE SLIDE
WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LATCH PIN IS RETRACTED IN THE DISARMED POSITION DURING THE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. THIS PREVENTS AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE ESCAPE SLIDE MECHANISM DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE SAFETY PIN IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED IN THE HATCH FRAME IF THE EMERGENCY EXIT HATCH IS REMOVED. THIS PREVENTS AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE ESCAPE SLIDE MECHANISM DURING THE MAINTENANCE.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
1. Reason for the Job
To adjust the emergency exit hatches (referred to as hatch) immediately after replacement of the hatch/hatch components, or if a door malfunction is reported.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 52-21-11-010-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Get Access
   (1) Remove the hatch lining from the hatch structure (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-001).
   (2) If necessary, carefully remove the insulation packs from the work area.
   (3) Make sure that the hatch is correctly installed (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 52-21-11-820-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Adjustment of the Skin Offset
   (1) Measure the skin offset A between the hatch contour and the fuselage contour.
NOTE: The skin offset A must be between 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) (into wind) and -2.5 mm (-0.098 in.) (out of wind).
   (2) If the skin offset A is out of tolerance, remove the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
   (3) Loosen the bolts (2), (9) to change the position of the upper roller fitting (1) and the pivot fitting (8).
   (4) Put the upper roller fitting (1) and the pivot fitting (8) in the correct position and tighten the bolts (2), (9).
   (5) Install the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001) and make sure that the skin offset and the lateral clearance C are correct.
Subtask 52-21-11-820-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Adjustment of the Clearances
   (1) Measure the clearances B through D between the outer skin of the hatch and the fuselage. The subsequent tolerances are permitted:
  • the upper clearance B must be between 4.5 mm (0.177 in.) and 2.5 mm (0.098 in.)
  • the lateral clearance C must be between 4.5 mm (0.177 in.) and 1.5 mm (0.059 in.)
  • the lower clearance D must be between 4.0 mm (0.157 in.) and 2.0 mm (0.079 in.).
   (2) Adjust the upper clearance B and the lower clearance D as follows:
     (a) Remove the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
     (b) Remove the nuts (4), the screws (6) and the hook bracket (7) from the bottom of the hatch (3).
     (c) Use a SCRAPER - WOODEN to remove the sealant from the hook bracket (7) and the hatch bottom.
     (d) Apply Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) to the mating surfaces of the shims (5), the hook bracket (7) and the hatch bottom.
     (e) Put the hook bracket (7) together with the shims (5) to the hatch bottom and install the screws (6) and the nuts (4).
     (f) Install the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001) and make sure that the clearances B and D are correct.
   (3) Adjust the lateral clearance C as follows:
     (a) Remove the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
     (b) Loosen the bolts (9) and move the pivot fitting (8) laterally.
     (c) Tighten the bolts (9).
     (d) Install the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001) and make sure that the lateral clearances C and E and the skin offset are correct.
Subtask 52-21-11-820-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Adjustment of the Lateral Clearance
   (1) Measure the lateral clearance E between the fuselage frame and the roller of the lateral guide fitting (11).
NOTE: The clearance E must be between 0.3 mm (0.012 in.) and 0.7 mm (0.028 in.).
NOTE: Make sure that the lateral clearance E is the same on the two sides of the hatch.
   (2) Remove the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
   (3) Remove the nuts (12), the screws (10) and the lateral guide fitting (11) together with the shims (13).
   (4) Use a SCRAPER - WOODEN to remove the sealant from the fuselage frame and the removed components.
   (5) Remove or add the shims (13) as necessary.
   (6) Install the lateral guide fitting (11) together with the shims (13) and attach them with the screws (10) and the nuts (12).
   (7) Install the hatch (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001) and make sure that the clearance E is correct.
5. Close-up
Subtask 52-21-11-410-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
