A. Get Access
WARNING: DO NOT OPEN THE PASSENGER/CREW DOOR IF THE WIND SPEED IS MORE THAN 65 KNOTS.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK ON THE DOOR, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THE EMERGENCY CONTROL HANDLE IS IN THE DISARMED POSITION WITH THE SAFETY PIN INSTALLED.
  • THE PERCUSSION LEVER OF THE DOOR-DAMPER AND EMERGENCY-OPERATION CYLINDER IS IN THE DISARMED POSITION WITH THE SAFETY PIN INSTALLED.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, THE DOOR CAN OPEN WITH FORCE OR THE ESCAPE SLIDE CAN DEPLOY SUDDENLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
WARNING: STOP THE OPENING PROCEDURE IF THE RED WARNING LIGHT FLASHES. IF THE RED WARNING LIGHT FLASHES, REMAINING PRESSURE CAN CAUSE THE DOOR TO OPEN SUDDENLY AND CAN:
  • KILL OR CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONS
  • CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 831 or 841.
   (2) Open passenger/crew door 831 or 841 (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-010-001).
   (3) Obey the special precautions before you start the work on the passenger/crew door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-860-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 52-11-18-340-055-A
A. Temporary Repair of the Rubbing Strips of the Cover Plate
NOTE: This temporary repair has a limit of 550 flight cycles.
   (1) Do an inspection of the forward passenger/crew door for distortion in the damaged rubbing strip area SRM 521000.
   (2) Remove the damaged rubbing strip.
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the damaged strip mating-area of the fuselage door-cutout area.
   (4) Make sure that the rubbing strip did not cause damage to the skin panel NTM 519000.
   (5) Replace the damaged rubbing strip if you can see the primer. To do this, refer to Para. 4.B.
   (6) Do an operational test of the forward passenger/crew door.
   (7) Make sure that the forward passenger/crew door moves correctly during its opening and closing.
   (8) Do steps 4.A.(1), 4.A.(3) and 4.A.(4) at intervals of 50 flight cycles.
   (9) After 550 flight cycles, install the new rubbing strip. To do this, refer to Para. 4.B.

B. Repair of the Rubbing Strips of the Cover Plate
   (1) Remove the damaged rubbing strip.
   (2) Remove the damaged sealant with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC and the BRUSH - BRISTLED, STIFF.
   (3) Clean the repair area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) or Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) as follows:
     (a) Use the minimum quantity of cleaning agent that is necessary to clean the area.
     (b) Dry the area immediately with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (4) Clean the surface with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (5) If necessary, apply protective treatment and repair the paint coating on the cover plate with the Surface Pretreatment-Light Alloys Chemical Conversion Yellow - (Material No.10ABC1) and the Primer Polyurethane Paint_- Corrosion Inhibiting Structure (Material No.04EAC2) SRM 512111 and SRM 517512.
   (6) Show the limits of the bonding areas on the cover plate with TAPE - ADHESIVE.
   (7) Mix Contact Adhesive-Rubber & Plastic Bonding Neoprene base - (Material No.05JBC9) with the SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (8) Apply a thin and constant layer of Contact Adhesive-Rubber & Plastic Bonding Neoprene base - (Material No.05JBC9) on the cover plate with the BRUSH - BRISTLED.
   (9) Apply Contact Adhesive-Rubber & Plastic Bonding Neoprene base - (Material No.05JBC9) on the neoprene side of the rubbing strip with the BRUSH - BRISTLED.
   (10) Let the adhesive cure until it is not tacky (evaporation of solvents).
   (11) Put the rubbing strip on the cover plate and make sure that it is in the correct position.
   (12) Apply pressure to all the surface of the rubbing strip. Make sure that there are no bubbles below the rubbing strip.
   (13) Measure clearance(s) A around the new rubbing strip.
   (14) Make sure that clearance(s) A is(are) 2 -0.5 mm or +0.5 mm (0.08 -0.02 in. or +0.02 in.).
   (15) Fill clearance(s) A between the new rubbing strip and the adjacent strip(s) with Polysulfide Sealant-Low Density Multi Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06ACB1) .
   (16) Remove the adhesive tape.
   (17) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Density Multi Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06ACB1) on the bottom edge of the rubbing strip.
   (18) Apply a constant pressure to all the surface of the rubbing strip during 24 hours to get a better bonding.
   (19) Do a check of the preload of the cover plate (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-220-007).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Obey the special precautions after the work on the passenger/crew door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-860-002).
   (3) Close passenger/crew door 831 or 841 (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-410-001).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
