A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) On overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
   (3) On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to start the APU.
   (4) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
   (1) Make sure that you put on and attach the 98L12003001000 HARNESS,SAFETY before you start work in the work area.
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below APU access doors 315AL and 316AR.
   (3) Make sure that APU access doors 315AL and 316AR are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (4) Make sure that the light switch 11LJ is in the ON position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 49-42-51-420-059-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Starter Motor
CAUTION: -YOU MUST NOT INCREASE THE TIGHTENING TORQUE MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM VALUE.
  • APPLY ALL TIGHTENING TORQUES WITH A TORQUE WRENCH OR A CALIBRATED SCREWDRIVER.
   (1) Apply Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) to the new AIPC 49-42-04-50-030 PACKING (13) or AIPC 49-42-84-20-030 PACKING (13).
   (2) Install the packing (13) on the starter motor (11).
   (3) Install the starter motor (11) with the V-band clamp (14) in the gear-box.
NOTE: It is important to make sure that the location pin (12) engages correctly.
   (4) Torque of V-band clamp
CAUTION: DO NOT TORQUE THE V-CLAMP(S) TO MORE THAN THE SPECIFIED VALUE. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLANGE SURFACES.
     (a) TORQUE the nut of the V-band clamp (14) to between 0.38 and 0.36 m.daN (33.63 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
   (5) Make sure that the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (6) Install the washers (2), (9) on the bottom of the starter motor terminals.
   (7) Connect the neg. lead (3) and the pos. lead (10) to the starter-motor terminals.
   (8) Install the washers (2) and (9) together with the lock-washers (4) and (8) at the starter-motor terminals.
   (9) Install the nut (5) on the neg. terminal and the nut (7) on the pos. terminal of the starter motor.
   (10) TORQUE the nut (5) to between 115 and 105 lbf.in (1.30 and 1.19 m.daN )
T.
   (11) TORQUE the nut (7) to between 180 and 170 lbf.in (2.03 and 1.92 m.daN )
T.
   (12) Push the rubber sleeves (6) over the starter motor terminals.
   (13) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (14) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (15) Connect the electrical connector P32 (1) to the starter motor (11).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

   (2) Set the light switch 11LJ to the OFF position.
   (3) Close APU access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Remove the 98L12003001000 HARNESS,SAFETY.

   (1) Pressurize the aircraft hydraulic systems

(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
