C. Get access to the avionics compartment
   (1) For the location of this component, refer to Para. Component Location (Ref. AMM D/O 46-41-00-00).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) is in position at access door 824.
   (3) Make sure that access door 824 is open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 46-41-37-420-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS:
  • STAY ON A CONDUCTIVE SURFACE THAT IS ELECTRICALLY GROUNDED.
  • USE A CONDUCTIVE WRIST-STRAP THAT IS ELECTRICALLY GROUNDED. (CONNECTED TO A BONDING-POINT NEAR THE WORK AREA).
  • BEFORE YOU USE THE TOOLS, MOMENTARILY HOLD THEM AGAINST AN ELECTRICAL GROUND TO RELEASE STATIC ELECTRICITY.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE CONNECTOR PINS OR OTHER CONDUCTORS ON THE COMPONENT DURING THE PROCEDURE. IF YOU TOUCH THESE CONDUCTORS, ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO COMPONENT.
A. Installation of the Head-End Server Unit (HESU)
F ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that you are grounded with an ELECTRICALLY GROUNDED WRIST STRAP.
   (4) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (5) Connect the HESU:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE GUIDE SLEEVES STAY ATTACHED TO THE LRU DURING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION. IF THEY BECOME LOOSE, YOU CAN EASILY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR AND YOU MUST REPLACE IT (BECAUSE NO REPAIR IS POSSIBLE).
     (a) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE RACK-MOUNTED COMPONENTS. SOME RACK-MOUNTED COMPONENTS ARE VERY HEAVY. THERE IS A RISK OF INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE HANDLE(S) TO HOLD THE COMPONENT. USE IT (THEM) ONLY TO REMOVE/INSTALL THE COMPONENT FROM/INTO THE TRAY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
     (b) Carefully put the HESU (1) on the tray (2).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU CORRECTLY ALIGN THE LINE REPLACEABLE UNIT (LRU). THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CONNECTORS.
     (c) Use the handles (6) and carefully push the HESU (1) to connect it to the electrical connectors (3).
     (d) Engage the knurled nuts (4) on the lugs (5) and tighten them until the HESU (1) is correctly attached.
   (6) Cut and discard the TIE WRAP(S)
to release the coaxial connector (7) from the adjacent structure.
   (7) Connect the coaxial connector (7) to the HESU TNC connector (8).
   (8) Install the HESU CF-card (Ref. AMM TASK 46-41-39-400-801).
   (9) Install the HESU media drives (Ref. AMM TASK 46-41-39-400-802).
   (10) Install the cellular-gatelink subscriber-identity module card (Ref. AMM TASK 46-41-37-400-802).
